Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Okay, admittedly, having a picnic at the beginning of January wasn't the best idea the school had ever come up with. Thankfully, the weather was sort of agreeable today - it wasn't too chilly, the sun was out, and there were still pretty pockets of unmelted snow on the lawn.

In the middle of the lawn, a bonfire had been set up for warmth and light--mostly the warmth--and the tables and chairs had been set out to mostly be in the sun. There was a long table with a variety of moddable warm foods, and there was the usual table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I know, it's a little too bouncy for my tastes ordinarily," Raven said, though she was bouncing herself a bit to the tune her world's version of "Shake It Off." "But I like the meaning of the song."

"It means something?" Lucille's expression didn't change. "I have to confess I prefer piano music."

"I'm dancing on my own, I make the moves up as I go, and that's what they don't know, mmm-mmm, that's what they don't know, mmm-mmm," Raven sang for Lucille's "benefit." "It's all about not caring what other people think of you, not letting their opinions shape who you are. You just have to 'Cast It Off.'"

She smiled even more when Lucille mentioned piano. "Oh, do you play? Or just listen to it?"

Forgive Lucille if she was just staring at Raven now, not at all impressed.

"I play," she said, smiling a little too sweetly.

Raven side-eyed her roommate a little, wondering if she needed to tone down the enthusiasm. "That's spelltastic" she said. "I play guitar. I wonder if the school has a band?"

"A band? I suppose there could be a music ensemble." Lucille really wasn't sure, and wasn't quite sure about the idea.

"We'll have to find out," Raven said, delighted by the idea. "It'll be fun! I never got to play much at my old school."

Primarily because boys were stupid.

Lucille wouldn't be surprised to learn that boys could be stupid. Considering the so-called music that Raven had just played - or rather let the tiny machine play - she suspected playing music together wouldn't go smoothly.

"I will try and find suitable music," she offered, "for piano and guitar." There had to be duets available that were enjoyable.
