She waved her hands indicating her dress (see avatar).

"I ordered it off the internet. I'm not entirely sure it's..." She continued to ~~flail~~ wave her hands as if it meant something.

Nadia smiled again. "You look great. You have nothing to worry about."

Pippi nodded and poured herself a cup of punch.

After taking a sip, she crinkled her nose.

"Rats."

Nadia shrugged. "I know. I was hoping it was alcoholic, too." She looked across the dance floor. "You know, at a dance, I expected . . . more dancing."

Pippi looked around.

"Obviously," she says indicating her cup of punch, "the night is young yet."

"I hope so." Nadia stared around the room again. "I'm not sure I see the big deal. It's bad music, still in school, and everyone just sort of stares at each other."

"There was a lot more dancing at the last one. But then, we had a live band and there were more people after a while... There's always the 'snarking corner'." She motions to the other side of the gym."

Nadia followed her finger. "Is that what that is?" She tilted her head, then leaned in closer to Pippi so no one else would hear her. "What does 'snark' mean?"

Pippi understood the need to be clandestine sometimes and leans in with Nadia.

"I'm not sure, but I think it's like being catty and talking a lot of shpunk about people."

Nadia blinked, and decided to pretend to know what Pippi was talking about until she figured it out. "Okay. I guess that might be . . . interesting,"

"Mostly, if I remember my conversation with Peter Parker, it's for people who are single and in a bad mood."

"Hey, Pippi! Hey Nadia!" Victor said as he walked up tot he girls. "You ladies didn't have to dress up for me, but I like it anyway."

"So you're leaving Walter for the two of us?"

Nadia managed not to blush and gently smacked Pippi's arm. "You look good too, Victor."

Victor sucked in a breath like he was seriously thinking about it. Then, he pulled his lips in tight and shook his head. "Sorry, ladies, as lovely as you are, I'm a man's man, if you know what I'm saying." he winked and grinned.

Walter appeared at Victor's elbow and made a show of looking relieved. "If he were going to leave me, it would definitely have to be for a pair of girls as pretty as you two look tonight."

"I'm sure it's just these shoes (http://static.flickr.com/40/101009041_c9740e94c8.jpg?v=0) Parker let me barrow. They don't have room for me to wiggle my toes, but they're so cute!"

Walter nodded politely. They didn't look like they'd take a polish very well, and that was generally as far as his interest in shoes extended. "They go very well with your dress," he said as a compromise. "I hope you'llbe able to dance well enough in them to save me a dance."

Nadia glanced from Pippi's shoes and then down at her own well-worn steel toed boots. She thought they went well with her short black dress, but maybe she should have worn heels?

The boots went better with the mallet she had strapped to her thigh beneath her dress, though. . . .

Okay, that time Nadia did blush. And gently hit Pippi, because, well, she didn't quite know what else to do. "Thanks!" It didn't come out as a squeak. That would have been undignified. "Oh look, not-alcoholic punch! Yum!"

Pippi gently nudged Nadia back.

Nudged, not hit.

Gently. Like actually gently, not like "Gently but not really."

"Yeah, I'm surprised someone hasn't spiked it, yet. Maybe I should get a cup after all before one of you ladies pulls a flask of vodka or something out."

Nadia blinked and kept her face perfectly straight. "I knew I forgot something,"

Then giggled because Pippi's nudge hit a ticklish spot.
