Detention, Depths of the Castle, Thursday

Another beautiful day had begun in Fandom, not that anyone in detention would have noticed. The lack of sunlight, the pleasant sound of Umbridge's voice, and the slightly stale smell of breakfast were all important aspects to making every day in detention routine! Surely everyone knew that surprises were no fun.

Look, the week was half over already and no one had been taken out and killed so far. That had to count for something, right?

Raven scrambled away from Sookie's body (http://fandomhigh.livejournal.com/3172874.html?thread=193194506#t193194506), panicked and confused. This wasn't right. It couldn't be real.

"No, no, NO," she shrieked, clutching her head in her hands, trying to make some sense of the screaming of the child of Azarath and the howling of the demon and the magics that were clamping down again on them both.

Jack was already on his feet, feeling ... not particularly human at all. Karla's visit had already messed him up, and now ...

Now that felt like child's play.

"You didn't," he said, in a voice that was almost a growl. "Fix it."

Raven shrank back, frightened and confused and not sure what she was supposed to do.

Obey.

"I-I cannot," she stammered. "I do not know how!" She wasn't sure if she was talking to Jack or the magics clawing at her brain.

"Well, then you shouldn't have been bloody playing with her to start with, should you have?" Jack asked wildly, and glanced to the rest of the group. "I don't suppose anyone here has forgotten to tell us they're a doctor."

Zoe had tried to be rational in dealing with Raven. She'd tried to remain stoic and calm in the face of the girl's terrifying powers. But that time was ending as she rushed over and knelt down next to Sookie, checking her for any signs of life. "What did you do to her?" she yelled.

"I broke her. I broke her," Raven whimpered, rocking against the wall. "I broke my toy. I broke my friend."

No, no friends. Just obedience.

"She's not a toy," Zoe said sharply. "Fix her, now. Undo whatever you just did. You can't leave her like this."

"Bobby's not letting go of her," Dinah whispered to Principal, after trying to reason with him. Her voice was clogged with tears. "I think... I think he wants him and Sookie to just become a glacier or something."

"It's not going to fix her," Zoe said quietly. "I'm worried nothing will."

You had to account for the fact that after a few years in here, your reactions might be entirely normal. You also had to account for the fact that Jaye was still Jaye.

Which was why there was a lot of staring in shock, and then turning to the lion and saying, "I did not see that coming."

Bobby wasn't exactly in a state to say anything to Raven, busy as he was with the only thing (http://fandomhigh.livejournal.com/3172874.html?thread=193251850#t193251850)* that mattered anymore.

______
* Annnd yes, Sookie's body has officially been carted off by a popsicle.

Dinah had been watching with fists clenched, shrieking, unable to do anything, and now...

"Sookie," she stared at the other girl's body, then back at Raven, her face turning ugly. "What are you crying about?"

Raven cringed, still fighting the battle in her mind. "She was my...I...I did not want to...."

No, she'd meant to do it. She'd wanted to. Because Sookie was bad.

Karla stormed over to Raven and reached an arm back to slap her across her stupid face. "You fool!" she snarled. "You stupid, bloody, wasteful, idiot!"

So much of Karla's own efforts would be undone by this...stupidity!

Raven put her hands up in front of her face, whimpering. Too many people screaming at once. So much rage and sorrow. "Stop, please, stop!" she begged.

"Yes," Dojima said, grabbing at Raven's wrist to try and force her to look at Sookie, heedless of whatever punishment she might get for it. "Look at her, you crazy Witch. Look at the boy, too. You've killed both of them."

"Are you happy now?"

"No," Raven moaned, struggling against Dojima's grip. "I did not. I would not! Please, let me go!"

Phoebe was trying to deal with all of the elevated emotions swirling around her in response to Raven killing Sookie. The problem was that her own emotions over it were getting in the way.

"You killed her," she whispered. "You killed her."

She was rapidly having to accept that, giving all the screaming. But still she shook her head. "I did not mean to do it!" she said.

Jonothon was frozen in place, eyes on Sookie's body as Bobby dragged her away, flames dipping down to a deep, dangerous blue.

//You... you worthless bloody madwoman,// he snarled, infusing every last ounce of his psionic voice with rage so cold that it could nearly burn, were it not for the dampeners keeping him from causing Raven harm. //You sick, demented monster.//

Just a few days ago, he was sitting on a beach in Sookie's head, singing for her, each of them carrying the other away from this.

//Are you happy now? Doing your puppeteer's dirty work, coming down here each and every day and trying to take us apart, piece by piece? You're pathetic, Raven! Play and play and play and damn the consequences! Who will it be next? We are not your goddamn toys!//

He wasn't crying. He wasn't capable of crying. But so help him, if he could lash out right then, he'd pay Raven back for this in a wave of fire and a psionic torrent of unfiltered agony.

He didn't need his powers to cause her pain. His emotions and those of everyone else there were tearing into her mind. "I am sorry I am sorry I am sorry," she sobbed. She'd long ago vowed to never use her powers to bring harm, and now she'd done just that. He was right. She was a monster.

Overwhelmed, she tried to retreat into herself, and the demon began to surge forth. "Get away from me!" she snarled.

Emma wasn't stupid enough to wade in to a mob of angry rebels, so she waited until it seemed most of them had at least gotten some licks in before pushing her way through, shoving the older blonde - Yurika, her mind supplied - out of the way and grabbing Raven by the ear.

"Raven," she said, and Emma's voice echoed physically and telepathically for all to hear. "Auntie Emma is Most Displeased right now, and we are going to go have a 'talk' about breaking the toys."

"Namely, that if you ever push this line again, I will make you relieve every single moment of everything you have ever done to anyone else, magnified, and you will not enjoy the pain. Now get up, you pathetic lump."

Raven snarled and tossed her head as she rose, pulling herself from Emma's grasp. Words almost formed on her tongue, that Emma was so very foolish and wrong, that she would enjoy the pain. It nourished the demon clawing inside her. But her mind was still too fractured and unstable. She needed to get away. And Emma's own arrogance was such a soothing balm.

"Very well," she said.

Somewhat like Jaye, Zayne was still Zayne. He hadn't had much murder in his life experience, but he wasn't the type to react to it by flying off into a rage. He just watched the aftermath unfold silently and reminded himself that somehow things would work out better than they were right now.

They couldn't get much worse.
