Sex Ed, Tuesday, First Period

Today a large poster was displayed at the front of the classroom. "I would just like to start by saying I had nothing to do with the creation of this poster," Steve said, looking faintly embarrassed about it. "But it has an important message. You can't always tell by looking at someone whether they have a venereal disease or not. They may not even know it. That's why protection is so important, and why abstinence is the only really effective way of preventing the spread of disease. Today we're going to have a little exercise to demonstrate this.

"You have the rest of the class period free to mingle and eat these cookies I brought. Half of you will receive a packet of chocolate chip cookies, and half of you will receive a packet of bacon maple cookies. If you want to trade, or try one of the other cookies, well, then you'll have to talk to each other, won't you? There is only one requirement: you must shake hands with anyone you talk to. And there is a catch. One of you is--hypothetically, of course--carrying a disease, which is transferred by the shaking of hands. I will tell you who at the end of the period. But don't worry about that for now. Chat. Enjoy the cookies."

"I've got a bacon maple, if anyone wants to trade," Matt said holding up his packet of cookies as he munched on one. "They actually are pretty good."

"Can I try one?" Darcy asked, holding up her own packet of regular chocolate chip cookies.

Of course holding up the packet of cookies wouldn't mean much to a normal blind person but Matt wasn't going to say anything about it.

"Hey Darcy," Matt said holding out a cookie. "I didn't realize you were in this class.

Would it help if she rattled them after realizing the issue a few moments later while turning a lovely shade of crimson.

"Uh, yeah." She half stammered. "I apparently need it to graduate or something. Uh...chocolate chip? Oh, wait, did you like recognize my voice or something?"

She did at least take the offered cookie.

"Yes, I recognized your voice. When someone tells you they tasered an alien god you tend to remember that conversation," Matt said with a chuckle.

"I'm unique like that." Darcy commented and munched on a cookie. "Oh hey, we were supposed to shake hands."

Seifer kicked back with his pack of chocolate chip cookies and grinned. Someone would want one.

"I don't suppose you want to try a bacon maple cookie?" Billy asked, holding up his pack. "I don't know what a bacon cookie will taste like, but it can't be that bad, right?"

"Awesome," Billy said, pulling one of the cookies out. "Oh, are we supposed to shake hands first?"

Seifer held out his hand and laughed. "Is this like forgetting to ask for a name until the next morning?"

Billy laughed, and shook Seifer's hand. "Something like that, I suppose. Or it's just the safest thing Mr. Rogers will let us do with each other in class."

She totally wanted them. She just couldn't eat them.

"I'm not really a cookie person," she said. "Admiring doesn't do me much good."

"Well then you could just give it all away," Matt suggested. "Which might be fitting considering the topic of the class."

"I could," she agreed. "And if I give it away sooner, there's less chance of coming into contact with more people, right?"

Not how it worked in real life.

Yeah, Mercy didn't particularly want any cookies that badly. If anyone wanted to come grab some of her chocolate chips, fine, but she wasn't going looking to trade.

"I'm not particularly a big fan of bacon cookies," Mercy admitted. "But you're welcome to my chocolate chip ones if you'd like."

Dave was just going to eat his chocolate chip cookies by himself, and never tell his parents that he decided to do such a thing in public. Was it shameful? Maybe. But he just wasn't ready to trade cookies with someone just yet.

Especially not when the other cookies seemed so... Canadian.
