Announcement and Refugee Hosting in The Gym, Friday Evening

The P.A. crackles to life.

"We shall be opening our doors to the poor, powerless townsfolk. They are to gather in the gym. Volunteers to help organize blankets, bedding, food, and etcetera would be very welcome."

Smith then walks down to the gym, props open the doors, and walks away. This was going to be a mess, and he felt ignoring it would be the best method to deal with it, rather than letting his head explode. Again.

[ooc: Huzzah! Townies can come to this post for their safety and warmth! Screening is disabled! Students and Teachers are welcome to organize something... but as it's an emergency, we hath not actually organized the refugee effort! Organize! Be Swift! But above all, interact and have fun!]

"Do you need me to page Dr. House?" A British voice asked from behind him. "Is he not here yet?"

"Dr. Pevensie," Fraser says, coming up from behind her. "Good to see you made it through the snow. Here to help, I assume?"

"Yes, and the power in my apartment seems to be out." She took off her earmuffs and shook her hair. "Is anyone injured? Are there any medical problems? I suppose it's too much to hope for that we'll get through this emergency without any."

"As of right now, I don't think we've suffered any type of injury to student, faculty, staff or townsperson," Fraser says. "Most people are cold and possibly a bit confused."

"Good to know," Susan sighed. "My last emergency rotation was three years ago. I'm a bit rusty on the treatment for frostbite. Is anyone in charge of what's going on here?"

"I don't think there's one person taking command of all activities," Fraser tells her. "I think it's more of a group effort. Students have organized food and bedding lines and, of course, the medical team. So far, everything seems to be running fairly smoothly."

Susan relaxed. "Well, thank God for that. Let me call Drs. Wilson and House, and confirm their presence or absence. In the meantime, I'll check with Alanna and the other students to make sure they're prepared for any contingency." She smiled at him. "I admit, I'm rather relieved you're here, Constable, as well as Mr. Gavin. I do so hate having to be the one who is organize people during a crisis. I'm much better at medical treatment."

"Yes, the two doctors should definitely be informed of his turn of events," Fraser agrees. "And I'm very glad to see you as well, Dr. Pevensie. Mr. Gavin and I have agreed that keeping people calm, at this stage, is the important thing. Soon, they'll start getting restless and we're afraid of tensions escalating then."

Susan found Fraser again about half an hour later. "I'm afraid Dr. Wilson is stuck in town, and Dr. House is confined to the clinic because of his leg. He did say he's keep it accessible to us, if we should need it, though. How are people doing?" she asked, looking around anxiously. "No fistfights yet, I hope?"

"Far as I can tell, no," Tommy said. He turned around. "Who're you? His girlfriend?"

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] susanofnarnia.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Um, no, not at all. I just met Constable Fraser this week. I'm Dr. Pevensie, the School Counselor. I *am* a medical doctor," she added. "And I don't believe we've been introduced?"

"Tommy Gavin, and thank Christ we've got an actual doctor around here," he said. "Even if she is a chick. Hey, can you prescribe medicine?"

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] susanofnarnia.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Susan blinked, then tartly said, "Yes, I can. But I thought we didn't have any injuries?" She sent Fraser a questioning glance, then kept her eyebrow up as she looked back at Tommy.

"Not yet, but you never know," Tommy quickly said. "I'm a firefighter. I work at the clinic in town. I can handle some stuff but for the real shit we're going to need a doctor."

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] susanofnarnia.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Fine, then. I should be competent for most things," she pulled her gloves off, "although it's been a while since I've treated frostbite, which seems most likely to occur. I think I'll try to call Dr. Wilson and Dr. House again, though. Perhaps they plan on coming here soon." She smiled wryly. "Or, at least we'll get confirmation if they need to be brought in by reindeer."

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] ladder62.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Good call," Tommy said. "Last thing we need is finding out the two docs got turned into popcicles."

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] susanofnarnia.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Susan left messages for House and Wilson, and then, about ten minutes later, received their return calls. "They can't make it," she said, sounding discouraged. "They're both stuck where they are, I'm afraid." She squared her shoulders. "But, I'm sure it'll be fine."

If she doesn't sound that convinced, you're probably just paying attention.

Camulus loomed up behind him, looking a bit grim. "Were you in some way maligning the abilities of Dr. Pevensie? Not to mention your language around a lady."

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] ladder62.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Tommy looked at him. "Who the fuck are you?"

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] godinakilt.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Camulus raised an eyebrow and regarded him for a long moment with his very best 'bow before me, Tau'ri scum' look. "I am Professor Camulus," he boomed finally in his very best 'bow before me, Tau'ri scum' voice. "Who are you?"

"What do you want a medal or a chest to pin it on?" Tommy replied. "Tommy Gavin, FDNY, Town clinic emergency response, and currently guy in charge of this shit. Now either you're some form of help or you're a pain in the ass. Right now my money's on two."

Janet rolled her eyes at Camulus. "Could you get over yourself for just one night, please?"

She shouldered her medkit, tried not to wince at her sore ribs--she'd taken a double dose of ibuprofin before heading down with spare MREs, her medkit, and possibly some things which might violate the weapons ban. Plus that damn healing device. "Hi," she said to the blond man. Anyone that got a Goa'uld mad was all right in her book. "Dr. Janet Frasier. I've come to help."

[identity profile] godinakilt.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Camulus was not having a good week. He would have liked to have thrown the Tau'ri across the room. Instead, he assumed what was possibly the sickliest smile ever witnessed. "I'm only trying to help." He held up the healing device. "Far more quickly than your medicines can."

Susan very carefully took one step back. Then another.

This really wasn't about her, after all.

Camulus stepped away from the pair and gently caught Susan's elbow with a small bow. "My apologies for that display. His attitude towards the efforts of the students displeased me. Youth or gender is no reason to dismiss noble actions."
