Announcement and Refugee Hosting in The Gym, Friday Evening

The P.A. crackles to life.

"We shall be opening our doors to the poor, powerless townsfolk. They are to gather in the gym. Volunteers to help organize blankets, bedding, food, and etcetera would be very welcome."

Smith then walks down to the gym, props open the doors, and walks away. This was going to be a mess, and he felt ignoring it would be the best method to deal with it, rather than letting his head explode. Again.

[ooc: Huzzah! Townies can come to this post for their safety and warmth! Screening is disabled! Students and Teachers are welcome to organize something... but as it's an emergency, we hath not actually organized the refugee effort! Organize! Be Swift! But above all, interact and have fun!]

"Like I fucking know," Tommy said. "Had one show up to the clinic the other day with two kids."

"Good God." Susan's eyes were huge, then narrowed in confusion. "Wait, why would he got to the clinic with his victims?"

"Said they weren't his," Tommy replied. "Said he was going out after the bitch that did it. Didn't kill me or them, so..." Tommy shrugged, indicating he didn't fully believe the whole thing himself, but that was all he knew.

Looking ill, she asked, "And the children? Did they recover?" She braced herself. "And do you know if he found the person responsible?"

Really, she hated this sort of thing. She could deal with it in a clinical setting, with all the rules and routines, but like this, it was always overwhelming.

"Kids are fine," Tommy assured her. "Got 'em to the mainland and they're going to be okay. No idea if he found the one that did it."

"Could you tell he was a vampire?" Susan was scanning the room now, worried. "I mean, was he quite obviously different, or could he pass for human?"

Re: MEDICAL HELP

"Could probably pass for human," Tommy said. "Though the hairstyle did suggest he can't see himself in a mirror."

Which surprised a laugh out of Susan, and allowed her to relax a little. "Well. I suppose we would have them outnumbered at any rate, wouldn't we? Silly to worry about the supernatural, when we may have more concrete emergencies at any moment."

"Conrete emergencies I'm better at," Tommy said. For a moment he had an unfocused look, as though he could spot something in the crowd that Susan couldn't see. He quickly shook his head and turned back to her. "Fire, explosion, hell at this point I'd take a cat up a tree."

"Crowd control and preparation are both concrete enough," Susan said. "Albeit boring. But I think I shall trade boring for anyone suffering here." She rubbed the bridge of her nose, and muttered under her breath, "Damn the power grid, anyway."

"That's what we get for living in the 'burbs," Tommy said. "How long you been here anyway?"

"It'll be just two weeks tomorrow, actually. It's ridiculous, a magic Island," Susan's voice warmed and sped up as she gave vent to her frustration, "With talking animals, flying children, and possibly insane squid, and they still have a power outage! What kind of place is this, that they can't have some kind of fix already in place? It's ludicrous!"

Re: MEDICAL HELP

"Oh Jesus Herbert Martin Christ," Tommy sighed. "The kids fly too? What the hell is this place?"

Susan blinked at him, then smiled brightly. "Ah. Someone less cognizant than I, finally. It's evidently some kind of -- overlap, or nexus, of a dozen worlds. Some of them are places where magic works. I'd think it delightful-- and so far it's been very entertaining-- except for the ridiculous futility of situations like this!" She gestured around her, clearly fed up.

"Just got here this week," Tommy said. "So far I know the ducks have teeth, vampires are real, and everybody's either green or gay. You'd think nothing would surprise me after living under Guliani for years, but apparently not."

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] susanofnarnia.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Giuliani?" Susan had a hopeless look on her face, of someone asked to process *one more thing*. Then she blinked, "Gay?"

Because, she'd really thought it was just James and Dr. House....

[identity profile] ladder62.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Please," Tommy scoffed. "You haven't noticed everybody in this town couldn't be queerer if they were wearing my grandmother's housecoat? God rest her soul."

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] susanofnarnia.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
"I haven't gotten out much," Susan said, somewhat austerely. "And I didn't wish to enquire. It is there business, after all." She frowned. "And I wasn't sure of what the polite way to handle any suspicions I had might be."

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] ladder62.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, well, you're British," Tommy said. "Your gaydar's already fucked up just from living there."

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] susanofnarnia.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"My what?" Susan asked, gaping at him. "I beg your pardon, what are you.. I don't quite... this is a *very* confusing conversation. Perhaps we should change the subject."

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] ladder62.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh-huh," Tommy said, as though she'd just confirmed something for him.

He stretched out his shoulders. "So, think you could handle this place if the grownups took shifts? Dudley Do-Right was thinking we should do it two by two."

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] susanofnarnia.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Susan nodded, still eyeing him askance. "Yes. Which would you prefer? I was fortunate enough to have a day off today, and slept in. I could take first watch, if you prefer."

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] ladder62.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm good for a couple more hours," Tommy said. "If you can beat me past that, all yours, sweetheart."

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] susanofnarnia.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Susan didn't twitch at the 'sweetheart' -- she'd dealt with far worse in residencey -- although it did make her roll her eyes a bit. "Right then. I'll take it until 3am? And awaken Constable Fraser then?"

Re: MEDICAL HELP

[identity profile] ladder62.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, that'll do," Tommy said. "Or get me sooner if somebody comes in with an emergency."
