Announcement and Refugee Hosting in The Gym, Friday Evening

The P.A. crackles to life.

"We shall be opening our doors to the poor, powerless townsfolk. They are to gather in the gym. Volunteers to help organize blankets, bedding, food, and etcetera would be very welcome."

Smith then walks down to the gym, props open the doors, and walks away. This was going to be a mess, and he felt ignoring it would be the best method to deal with it, rather than letting his head explode. Again.

[ooc: Huzzah! Townies can come to this post for their safety and warmth! Screening is disabled! Students and Teachers are welcome to organize something... but as it's an emergency, we hath not actually organized the refugee effort! Organize! Be Swift! But above all, interact and have fun!]

He raised an eyebrow and gave a small, mocking bow. "As you wish." He strode off to have a word with Dr. Pevensie.

Janet snorts. Hitting on the new school counselor was what he thought of as useful? Why was she not surprised.

About ten minutes later, Susan came over to introduce herself. "I'm sorry, are you one of the clinic aides I haven't met yet? I'm Dr. Pevensie. Susan Pevensie, the new school counselor."

Janet nodded and smiled from where she was sorting her equipment the stuff in public view, at least. "Dr. Janet Fraiser," she said. "I help out in emergencies. Nice to meet you."

"Likewise. Thank you so much for coming in," Susan said, her voice serious. "Dr. House has the clinic open in case we need supplies or to move someone, but I'm afraid he's stuck in his apartment. Dr. Wilson is snowed in at his place in town. Have you seen anyone who needs treatment yet? I've only just arrived a few minutes ago."

"Not yet, though I'm glad to hear the clinic is open," said Janet as she hadn't quite made her way over to Harper's comment at this point in time. "So are you a psychiatrist or a psychologist?"

"Both, actually." Susan smiled a little defensively. "I took the combined course at Oxford." Then she wondered what it was that had her defensive. She studied Janet and decided it might have been her directness, and relaxed. Americans. She had to remember that the mores were just a little different, and not see everything as a challenge.

"That's a very difficult set of courses," said Janet calmly, ignoring the other woman's defensiveness. "It's an impressive accomplishment. So what brings you to Fandom?"

"I received a letter, offering me a position here. My last job had become somewhat... problematic," Susan said, unwilling to get into details, "And since I'd visited America in my teens, I was happy to come back." She cocked her head at Janet. "Are you planning on becoming a doctor? Or do you just enjoy helping people?"

"I'll be attending medical school after I get my undergraduate degree," said Janet, after a short pause. "I"m sure the experience will be very good on my college applications." She shrugged. "So where did you visit when you were in America before?"

"New York and Chicago. It was only for one summer, but I had a marvelous time." Susan looked around. "This place is nothing like them, of course. I thought I could do daytrips to Washington and Boston from here, but I've been so busy-- and this is so *odd* -- I don't know if that's ever going to happen." Cocking her head, she asked, "Do you students find this all routine? Or are you just better at hiding it?"

"Hiding what? Being surprised by everything that happens here?" asked Janet. She'd been surprised by a lot of things, here and elsewhere. "You get used to it, I guess. Besides, this is just a blizzard. You can go up to Washington or Boston when it gets warm again. Washington's much, much closer, though."

Susan wasn't about to explain her time displacement, and how it made her wonder if she even *could* leave the island without immediately becoming eighty years old. "How far away would you say it was? I was hoping to--" find out if I'd age into a crone-- "take a day trip perhaps next weekend."

"Washington?" asked Janet. "Very close."

Then she saw Harper a shivering blond man and moved to help him.

OOC: Sorry, wanted to do a fast wrap.
