The Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

Though he'd heard about something like it being in the works, the club fair wasn't what Simon had been looking for.

Regardless, it was what he found, just as it was being set up. He almost left straight away, to avoid being in anyone's way, but then his curiosity won out. So, he decided to stay and take a look at the club schedule.

Couldn't hurt, could it?

Warren had made a point, today, to come in with two of the staples, so far as he could gather, of fraternity culture. He'd only really stepped in to help with the fraternity near the end of the last semester, but what he was lacking in experience, he could make up in a willingness to learn!

... And a vast fortune. And maybe enthusiasm.

Either way, there were several moddable types of pizza from Pizza Planet set out. And there was coffee from the Perk.

Beautiful coffee.

"Obviously I'm not joining your frat," Petra said as she approached the frat table, cupcake tenderly cradled in her hands, "but I would like to participate in a gesture of goodwill, by which I mean I skipped lunch to finish my club banner and would love to swap you a cupcake for a slice of pizza."

"There's plenty of pizza to go around," Warren laughed, making a grand gesture to the pizza with one hand. "Take as much as you need."

He grinned a bit.

"And that cupcake looks awesome. Did you make those yourself?"

Warren might have had a bit of a natural compulsion toward home-baked-goods wariness, but he was steadfastly reminding himself that not everybody thought that tartar sauce was an adequate substitute for cream of tartar the same way his girlfriend did.

"I did," Petra confirmed, setting the cupcake down for Warren. "I think they came out pretty well." She wiggled her fingers in anticipation as she tried to pick a type of pizza, before finally going with pepperoni. Mmmm. Pepperoni.

Yeah, no, Petra counted among her talents the ability to read and follow a recipe.

"Oh my God," Petra said, and then made herself actually chew and swallow before continuing, "that was exactly what I needed. Thank you so much. And hi, I'm Petra."

Warren, meanwhile, was content to sample the icing from the top of the cupcake.

Yes. That was the way a cupcake was supposed to be made, right there.

"I'm Warren. And this cupcake is great." In case there was any doubt. "You're new this semester?"

Or else he was really unobservant, which was always a possibility. Summer had been a bit of a nightmare this year.

"Fraternity!" Sam yelled. She grabbed a slice of pizza and crammed a rather impressive amount into her mouth at once. "Where do I sign up?"

Yeah, she was pretty much just here for the pizza.

Warren was vaguely aware that there was one at least every semester. One girl, trying to join the boy-club. And so, he was more or less prepared for this eventuality and managed to handle that bit with some amount of grace and poise.

The sheer size of that mouthful, on the other hand, had him staring with his mouth hanging open. He took a moment to get his bearings before attempting an answer.

"Probably over there, at the sorority table," he offered, tentatively. He didn't really want to make assumptions about gender identity or anything, either, but he kind of suspected that Sam was only here for the pizza.

Sam was totally only here for the pizza.

Also to possibly see if she could make smoke come out of someone's ears.

She took another large bite, looking over at the sorority table. "What's the difference?"

Warren gave that question all the consideration that it was due. For a moment, with a bit too much of Lucivar's charming influence behind him, he contemplated on saying something regarding balls and tits.

Fortunately, diplomacy won that brief internal struggle.

"Mostly, it's the difference between sleepovers and panty raids, I think."

He was normally the nerd type, of course.

"The entrance exam is pretty easy," Warren said, sighing. Yes, after his conversation with Sam, Warren totally made up an entrance exam. "You have to get a hundred percent to pass, but it's not a difficult question. Are you, or do you identify as, male?"

The sorority was totally welcome to adapt the same exam to suit their purposes, but Warren doubted that they ever had this many problems with guys trying to join. Presumably because guys could recognize that they had their own club, too.

"Apparently this is a regular thing," Warren sighed, shrugging. "Plenty of girls have tried it, pretty much every semester, but only one has ever really gotten in."

The yearbooks were very interesting sources of information on how the KKG was run.

"Presumably because she was really some sort of eldritch god trapped in a female body, gender didn't quite apply."

He'd been expecting one girl; was he prepared for two? One of whom was his own girlfriend?

"Kiss kiss," Karla said, stopping in front of the table and helping herself to a slice of pizza. Hey! She was hungry! As usual...

Her expression probably boded ill for Warren. It was playful.

He knew that look. That look meant that Warren was damned if he did, and damned if he didn't.

Maybe he could lessen the suffering by sliding the rest of the pizza box her way.

"Hey, Karla. How goes the club fair?"

Secretly, Karla was an Arcerian cat on two legs. "Oh, you know. Club fair-y. Those cupcakes look delicious, though." Karla would probably head over and see if she couldn't get the recipe. Rainbow cupcakes were brilliant and she already had the best idea of how to make each color taste like a different flavor...

"Oooh! Is this the booth for the frat?"

Like she'd really just realized that.

Yeah, Warren could see through that like it was made out of glass, Karla.

"As a matter of fact..." He squinted a bit, trying to make sense of what she was trying to get at, here. "Since I kind of inherited it after the last two leaders left, and all."

Yeah, Bobby? Was just going to hop up so he was sitting on the table, and begin helping himself to pizza slices.

"Hey, War," he greeted cheerfully around a mouthful of pepperoni-and-bacon.

Or maybe the awesome company!

As evidenced by the half-dozen superhero teams he'd been on since his powers manifested. Shut up.

"I will take your pizza away, swear to god," Warren replied, really only half-joking. "How does the sorority ever get any signups? It's like all the girls in the school would much rather join the frat."

Re: Talk to the Representatives - Kappa Kappa Gremlin

[identity profile] richieryan.livejournal.com 2011-09-17 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Pizza! Pizza was definitely worth wandering over to this table for. And as an added bonus, Richie figured a frat wasn't exactly what Mac had in mind when he'd strongly encouraged Richie to do something extracurricular.

"So, what's the point?" Richie asked as he grabbed a slice of something meaty. "What do you guys do?"

Re: Talk to the Representatives - Kappa Kappa Gremlin

"We eat a lot of pizza," Warren replied. Because that seemed to be the biggest selling point of the day. "And from there, we mostly just wing it and do guy things. Paintball, video games, fundraisers for... something or other."

He was so good at this.

"... Bar crawls? I think we're open for suggestions."

So long as there weren't any girls, dammit. He was getting kind of firm on that point, by now. Next semester, he was going to make a No Girls Allowed sign and decorate the booth like a freaking tree fort.

Re: Talk to the Representatives - Kappa Kappa Gremlin

[identity profile] richieryan.livejournal.com 2011-09-17 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Wing it, Warren? Really?

"I can get behind pizza. And...stuff." Stuff seemed to cover it pretty well. "Isn't there only one bar that'll serve us? Pretty short crawl."

Richie paused, then gave Warren a slightly suspicious look. "I don't have to do anything weird or creepy to join, right?"

Re: Talk to the Representatives - Kappa Kappa Gremlin

[personal profile] wwiii 2011-09-17 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
It was a perfectly valid turn of phrase!

"A really short crawl, unless we can get clearance to go to the mainland." A beat. "Somewhere on the mainland with a drinking age that can accommodate us all. Maybe somewhere in Europe. I'll have to look into that."

What? Why not?

"And there aren't any big hazing rituals or anything yet. Tony and I are both pretty new at this frat thing ourselves, so we might come up with something between now and our first meeting, but we'll end up having to do it ourselves too. Really, if you're a guy, you're welcome to join without fearing too much for your pants or whatever."
