The Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

Though he'd heard about something like it being in the works, the club fair wasn't what Simon had been looking for.

Regardless, it was what he found, just as it was being set up. He almost left straight away, to avoid being in anyone's way, but then his curiosity won out. So, he decided to stay and take a look at the club schedule.

Couldn't hurt, could it?

Petra had tricked out her booth with a couple of rainbow flags and a club banner she'd sewn using most of her discretionary sequin and rhinestone supply:





What it lacked in understatement, she felt, it made up for in total lack of understatement. She also had a tray of rainbow cupcakes¹ and her best welcoming smile. She was ready.

¹Petra would assure anyone who asked that loving cupcakes was not, in fact, a requirement for club membership, but she would side eye them something fierce.

Kenzi had a megaphone. Don't ask.

"Fooood. Colorful fooood," she sang when she saw Petra. "Okay, is this the kind of Pride in being L-G-B-T-Q, or something else, from your world with Mr. Momo B. ChaCha?" Of course she remembered that. It was fun to say.

"...okay, were the rainbows not a big enough of a hint?" Petra wanted to know. "Do I need to add a postscript to the banner? 'All you gay kids look over here'? I don't have time to sew that."

Tara took a cupcake and licked off the frosting as she gave Petra a considering look. The girl hadn't pinged her at all, but it wasn't like she had so much experience exercising her gaydar. Petra was an ally, maybe?

"Wow, it's awesome you're doing this," she said. "Th-there aren't a lot of out gay girls here."

Actually, as far as she knew, there was exactly one these days -- not counting whatever was going on with Raven and Karla.

"I know I'm new," Petra admitted, "but it seemed like something that could be a thing. Oh, I'm not L, but I'm T." It was like a code! A really obvious code. "How's the cupcake?"

Miley fully did not understand what this club was about. Blame Disney. She did, however, have a great deal of pride in herself, and she did enjoy sparkly text.

"Oooh, can I get a cupcake? I LOVE cupcakes."

And as Jack was approaching the table, he saw the sign. The cupcakes the flags.

And then realized it was that kind of pride. "Ah," he said in realization. And then smiled at Petra. "So if I sign up do I get another cupcake or do I have to eat some more lean protein??"

If the rainbow flags didn't get Billy's attention, the sparkly banner certainly did. "Uh, hey," he said, a little awkwardly. "Those are some awesome looking cupcakes."

Chuck identified by no letters that fitted into this particular category, but that didn't stop him from taking a momentary detour to stare at the glitter and cupcakes.

"... You definitely have the best bribes," he decided. Or at least the ones requiring the most effort to produce. He loved pizza, but these were definitely prettier.

The banner caught Hanna's attention. She approved of that much use of sparkly decor. To Petra, she asked, "Can anyone sign up?"

Though she wasn't LGBTQ, she was most definitely an ally.

"Sure!" Petra said. "Everyone's welcome!" As far as she could tell half the club was straight so far anyway, although she could totally be wrong about that. Her gaydar wasn't terrific. "Unless they turn out to secretly be assholes, in which case I will kick them out with my fashionable boots."

Toby (with a certain pair of purple-trimmed runners that Petra was sure to recognise on his feet) eventually made his way over to Petra's table. "Fellow student council member!" he greeted cheerfully.

The sign was certainly... sparkly. More than sparkly enough to draw Marshall's attention. Sparkly enough -- at least in combination with the rainbow cupcakes -- for Marshall to figure out exactly what kind of pride it was advertising.

"Uh," he said, looking a little nervous as he walked up to the table. "Hi?"

Someone was new to this whole 'liking boys' thing.

Okay, she hadn't bothered looking at other booths, before. But after Seifer (http://fandomhigh.livejournal.com/2932062.html?thread=183805790#t183805790) had pointed out the Pride booth, she had to stop by. She wasn't usually a joiner, but she wanted to come over and ... hover. Or something.

"Can I have a cupcake?" she asked, and then, a moment later, "I, uh, I want to ... kind of ... learn to be an ally. I think. Even if I'm still kind of mad at somebody."

Oh. "N-not for being gay," she amended, quickly.

Fuck. Now the pride club was going to think she was a jerkass bigot.

"I'm ... sorry," she said, setting the cupcake down again. "I should ..."

Go? Maybe?
