The Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

Though he'd heard about something like it being in the works, the club fair wasn't what Simon had been looking for.

Regardless, it was what he found, just as it was being set up. He almost left straight away, to avoid being in anyone's way, but then his curiosity won out. So, he decided to stay and take a look at the club schedule.

Couldn't hurt, could it?

Okay, she hadn't bothered looking at other booths, before. But after Seifer (http://fandomhigh.livejournal.com/2932062.html?thread=183805790#t183805790) had pointed out the Pride booth, she had to stop by. She wasn't usually a joiner, but she wanted to come over and ... hover. Or something.

"Can I have a cupcake?" she asked, and then, a moment later, "I, uh, I want to ... kind of ... learn to be an ally. I think. Even if I'm still kind of mad at somebody."

Oh. "N-not for being gay," she amended, quickly.

Fuck. Now the pride club was going to think she was a jerkass bigot.

"I'm ... sorry," she said, setting the cupcake down again. "I should ..."

Go? Maybe?

Petra had been getting a lot of this today. "Okay, breathe," she recommended. "And you can totally have a cupcake! They're for everyone, whether they're gay, straight, bi, whatever. You don't even have to join the club."

Okay. She could breathe. And not be an idiot. That was good, right?

"Thanks," she said. Breathing. "For, uh, the cupcake. And the other thing."

She took the cupcake.

"My dad's gay," she added. See? That wasn't so hard. "Mom's not taking it very well."

Joy Lass never took anything well, ever. Especially not being cheated on with a (male) grad student.

"New discovery?" Petra guessed. "Sort of upended your worldview?"

Most people didn't take being cheated on with a grad student very well, to be fair.

And really, Joy wasn't the happiest of people to begin with. Worst name ever.

"Yeah, on both counts," she said. "He's being a dick, and she's being a drama queen, and he's sleeping with someone like half his age, and I'm ... really glad I'm not living at home right now."

Reggie was thrilled.

"Let's hear it for being out of the line of fire," Petra agreed. "That sucks that your dad's a cheating liar, which, I can't help you with, but if you want help processing the gay thing, Pride might be good for that?"

George was nodding. "Okay, yeah," she said. "Plus, hey, free cupcakes."

Being a smart-ass was easier than talking about her feelings, or admitting that she felt awkward admitting as much as she'd already said.

"It's ... cool that you did this," she added. "I just ... wanted to say that, too."

"The cupcakes are my secret weapon," Petra admitted. "And thanks. It just seemed like it could be a good idea, and the turnout's been great. Although, again, cupcakes."
