The Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

Though he'd heard about something like it being in the works, the club fair wasn't what Simon had been looking for.

Regardless, it was what he found, just as it was being set up. He almost left straight away, to avoid being in anyone's way, but then his curiosity won out. So, he decided to stay and take a look at the club schedule.

Couldn't hurt, could it?

The sign was certainly... sparkly. More than sparkly enough to draw Marshall's attention. Sparkly enough -- at least in combination with the rainbow cupcakes -- for Marshall to figure out exactly what kind of pride it was advertising.

"Uh," he said, looking a little nervous as he walked up to the table. "Hi?"

Someone was new to this whole 'liking boys' thing.

"Hi!" Petra said, smiling at him, "Can I interest you in a cupcake?"

Smiling was good! Smiling was friendly! And ooh, cupcake.

"Uh, thanks," Marshall said, grabbing one and taking a tentative bit. "This is really good!"

Cupcake 1, nerves 0.

"Thanks!" Petra said, still smiling. "I made them myself."

"They're totally awesome," Marshall reiterated.

"So, uh, this club, it's for... Can anyone join? Even if they're not... Or, like, I have a friend who's started questioning, and I told him I'd ask if that'd be okay."

Aaand that would be the return of nervous Marshall, yes. And his 'friend'.

Ah, yes, the 'friend.' Petra didn't think anyone had ever actually believed the 'friend' line in the history of its use, but, "Sure, it's open to everyone. And there's a Q in the official club description and everything, so, you know, tell your friend to stop on by."

To be fair, Marshall didn't even really expect her to believe him; plausible deniability is key, that's all. "Thanks, I will," he said, visibly relieved. He moved to sign up himself. "So the Q stands for questioning? I thought it was..." Marshall hesitated, not sure then if it was a good word to use. "Uh, something else."

Seriously, if it was bad would they have it in their acronym? "It can also be Queer," Petra said, "but two Qs would look stupid, don't you think? It's a multitasking Q."

"Oh! That's what I thought, but then I thought if the Q was questioning, then it couldn't be queer, and then I thought maybe it wasn't a good word to use at all, and... And I'll stop rambling now."

He flushed a bit. "I'm Marshall, by the way."

"Just relax, okay?" Petra suggested. "Totally nothing to stress about. Also, cupcakes. I'm Petra."

"Cupcakes!" Marshall agreed. "They are awesome." He took another bite of his. "Especially these ones! Thanks, Petra, I'll, uh, let my friend know that he can come sign up, too."

Because there was a friend! Honest!

Right, his friend. "It was nice meeting you, Marshall! I'll see you at the meetings!"
