Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Some parts of the East Coast might have been freaking out about a hurricane, but there was no such madness going on in Fandom. Sure, it was a little hot out, with the sun shining and not much breeze happening, but all the milk and toilet paper on the island was safe, and that was important, right? Besides, once the new folks started learning about their new home, there'd be more than enough freaking out to go around.

The usual main attraction had been set up first: a large buffet of food and drinks had been laid out next to all the information the new arrivals would need, and then the blue and gold tables and chairs had been arranged across the rest of the lawn. Everything was just about done when the shuttle arrived, and it was time for a picnic once again.

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Petra pinned her nametag to her dress and looked around hopefully. She needed someone to reassure her that she hadn't accidentally shipped herself to an asylum. She needed that a lot.

Continuing the theme of at least attempting to avoid too much notice, Lex's nametag only had his first name written on it.

"Hey!" Marshall said, catching sight of the nametag; his own had his full name as well as a drawing of a caffeine molecule. He gave Lex a bright smile, remembering his own newbie day. "Are you Lex Luthor, or am I still looking for my new little sibling?"

Yeah, the name recognition, not so much; maybe if Lex had been a Pearson... Although that family was decidedly less crazy.

Lex nodded. "That's me." The lack of reaction to the Luthor part of his name was good.

Spock's eyebrow raised when he found his roommate's name on the list. Another female, it seemed. Very well. He'd gotten along well enough with his previous two roommates, after all.

He stepped away from the list so that others could read it and began looking around for this 'Susan Sto Helit.'

Susan hadn't even begun to be able to guess who'd she be looking for with a name like "Spock," but as it turned out, she just so happened to move directly toward him, even if she didn't realize that's what she was doing.

He looked a bit elvish.

"There must have been some mistake," she said.

"If you are Susan Sto Helit," Spock said, "I can assure you there is not. The school assigns coeducational roommates. My previous two roommates have been female."

((...okay clearly I was up way too late to post this in the wrong thread and not even notice. Just roll with it?))

Quinn figured anybody with a name like Daenerys was either from some other reality or had crazy mean parents, so she'd stolen an idea from Karla and made a 'welcome to Fandom' basket for the girl. The basket had gourmet chocolates, a prepaid phone, a Fandom High Gremlins t-shirt and leggings, aspirin, and a couple other moddable odds and ends.

Nametag filled in neatly and in caps and plastered to her chest, she was cheerful as she watched for her new little sibling. She was sure she'd have much to teach.

Daenerys had ridden her silver across the causeway, after bidding Ser Jorah a safe time without her in Essos. (He, in his grave way, had assured her again that this was the best, for her own good and for that of the khalasar she was fostering. She was still struggling with the idea.)

As a result, when she arrived at the picnic, she was still dressed in Dothraki garments - loose, woven trousers and a similar top bound loosly around her. She'd thought to change, but that would require meeting not only her roommate, but someone who'd tell her anything about this place, first.

She'd made sure her three dragons were staying close, Drogon on her shoulder as usual, before looking around anxiously for someone who looked a Quinn. And she smiled to find it was the lovely young woman with the basket. "Hello," Dany greeted her, a touch uncertain. "Are you - my name is Daenerys. Are you Quinn?"

"Hi, that's me," the bearer of that name confirmed. She'd pretty much been prepared for the weird clothes; the pet dragons were another story, and she was staring at Drogon as she spoke.

She was grateful Daenerys had said her name first so Quinn didn't need to mangle it.

"It's good to meet you, Daenerys. I kind of have to ask -- is that a real dragon on your shoulder?"

Natalie hadn't been on the shuttle this morning because the mun had been busy (which would continue), having opted for a portal that had dumped her straight on the causeway instead. That had been... interesting. But she supposed portals were useful, even if she'd never actually travelled by one before.

Looking decidedly neutral about everything, she scanned the crowd for a Billy.

Billy had never had the chance to be a big sibling before, so he really wanted to make sure he didn't screw things up with Natalie. He'd made sure his name was clear on his nametag, and took a look around for unfamiliar faces as he went through the crowd. Hopefully, he looked friendly, and not scary.

Natalie wasn't too easily scared, but no, he didn't look scary. Not that she was explicitly thinking about that, because she was looking at nametags and that was what she saw first. "Billy?" she called out, once she thought she'd spotted the right one.

The one she was wearing herself read Natalie Adams in neat letters.

JacK had his name tag on his shirt and was eyeing the crowd trying to figure out which one was his little sib.

As it so happened, that would be the blonde girl in the fancy dress, struggling once more with the discovery that there really was no good place to put a nametag when wearing a fancy dress. One would think the practice she'd had earlier for all those Parents' Weekend visits would be helpful, but Rosella was once again relegated to looking at it with a sigh, crumpling it up, and tossing it in a nearby bin. She supposed she'd just have to stick to introducing herself the old fashioned way, by speaking to people.

Going on a hunch (Jack was good at hunches) he spotted the girl in extravagant outfitvand guessed that had to be his sib.

"Rosella?" he asked as he approached her.

Mercy was here looking for Lucrezia Borgia, which, seriously, had to be some kind of a joke. Or the poor thing had parents with a really bad sense of humor.

Still it was kind of exciting to get to be somebody's Big Sibling, so here she was with her nametag on, wondering how she was ever going to explain Fandom to the girl.

The lounge had been odd and unfamiliar enough; clearly this institution hoped to continue that trend. This could not possibly be Ostia. She would know it if Ostia was so bizarre, its cultures so unique, its inhabitants so unfamiliar with the very city of Rome that they bordered.

Perhaps Rosella was an oddity in that. She could only hope.

It was a confused and weary Lucrezia who finally discovered the girl who had been assigned to be her local family. (Were those the alliances Cesare had spoken of? Best to put on a good face and present the Borgias well.)

She set her trunk down and gave the most proper bow she knew. "Lucrezia Borgia, at your service."

Mercy blinked. "Um... Hi. Mercedes Thompson. Uh, at your service too, I guess."

Or... maybe this was more Fandom weirdness and this really was that Lucrezia Borgia.

To be blunt, Susan found the idea of having a "big sibling" quite unnecessary. It wasn't as if it was a big school, and she'd looked over the course list, Clearly things were not run as tightly as it had been at the Quirm College for Young Ladies, not if there was a class which had "What was the school board thinking" in the title.

She supposed she'd wear the nametag, since that seemed to be expected of her, so she wrote her first name in plain writing in the very center of the tag and stuck it to herself, feeling a bit silly for it.

Annie had her nametag prominently displayed, she had a mental list of all the things she should run through with her new little sibling, and she had a watchful eye out for said little sibling.

She wasn't sure who would name their kid Rapunzel, but she'd seen some unique names in her radio notes. She could roll with it.

A slightly-built blond girl was wandering around near the name tags. Not really heading toward them, but aimlessly moving not too far away. Her eyes were huge as she stumbled around (in a combination of amazement and general overwhelmedness).

The thick blond hair that trailed nearly a hundred feet behind her suggested that she might, maybe, be named Rapunzel.

Hanna reluctantly wore her nametag since she was sure it clashed with her outfit. Still, she knew it was a necessity. So she placed it somewhere that was easily visible, and then looked around for her big sibling.

Hanna. There. Squall's first impression of his new little sibling wasn't a very positive one, but with luck she'd surprise him.

"Marin," he greeted her brusquely. "Welcome to Fandom."
