Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Some parts of the East Coast might have been freaking out about a hurricane, but there was no such madness going on in Fandom. Sure, it was a little hot out, with the sun shining and not much breeze happening, but all the milk and toilet paper on the island was safe, and that was important, right? Besides, once the new folks started learning about their new home, there'd be more than enough freaking out to go around.

The usual main attraction had been set up first: a large buffet of food and drinks had been laid out next to all the information the new arrivals would need, and then the blue and gold tables and chairs had been arranged across the rest of the lawn. Everything was just about done when the shuttle arrived, and it was time for a picnic once again.

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I don't care about co-ed rooming." It was the general idea of sharing a room, period, that she was vaguely dreading. "And I'm neutral on uniforms," she added, but something else had caught her interest. "What was that about not having normal classes?"

"Uh, well, for example, one of the classes here is taught by a talking pink pony," Billy said. Okay, maybe that wasn't exactly easing her into things, oops. "You're not really going to find, like, math and science here. Classes are more about defending yourself, or being philosophical about things...it's pretty cool, if you're not really into boring subjects."

[Grrrrr notifs.]

Natalie's eyebrows bounced a little further up. "Wait, is that going to affect my chances of getting into university?"

Amazingly, she could bypass the pony thing for right now (but she wouldn't be able to, once said pony was going to come up to her to offer a cupcake, oh well). Someone had many an independent study option in her future.

Oh, someone who actually cared about college. That was really nice to see. "I don't think so? People who graduated in the spring seem to be heading off to college just fine, if they wanted to," Billy said reassuringly. "I think the administration does something with the records. It wouldn't surprise me, at least."

Natalie nodded, somewhat reassured. "Okay. Good." She had goals in life, and she'd rather mess those up herself than let her school do it for her. "I don't think that was in the brochure."

"There's probably a lot that wasn't in the brochure. I should probably warn you that it's not just the classes that are weird. Some of the people here--it's not a bad thing, but they might not be what you'd consider normal," Billy said. "We've got witches and healers and other people with powers. No one bad." He felt like that was important to emphasize. "Just...interesting, I guess."

"Interesting." Well, that was one word for something that included witches and healers and whatever. But at least she wasn't freaking out, even if that was... really, really new. "I think I can live with interesting."

So many experience points.

Billy broke into a grin at how accepting she was, even in spite of his warnings. "Then I think you're going to do just fine here. If you ever need anything, just give me a call or something. It's not just today that I can help you."
