Shop Class #2

As the students walk in, Mac is busy tinkering with a remote control car. He looks up and smiles and gestures to...

Surrounding the room are a series of small bank vaults.

"Today kids we are going to see how you guys do pulling a houdini. You are all going to be tied up with rope and locked in a bank vault that is currently under constuction. Your goal is to get out of the ropes and break out of the vault. If you wish to partner up with someone you may, or you can work on your own."

Each of the vaults have:
safety deposit boxes - filled with typical stuff you would find there
An oxygen tank
A toolbox with your standard tools
A drill ((Not able to penetrate vault door, walls or lock. Can puncture safety deposit box locks))
A chair
((No power tools available. No cutting torches or welding equipment feel free to add anything you might find in a bank vault))
Of course you will have your virtual Swiss Army Knife and Duct tape with you.

For next Tuesday, you will be required to make a homemade smokescreen to use as a means to escape detection. Please make a list of the items you require and we will replicate it here in the Danger Room Shop.

Sam? I want you to come up with an in-class assignment for next Thursday.

Kitty? Please arrange a time to work with Cally to train her on to use the Danger Room Shop Technology.

Open Shop/Office Hours are here today from 12-4. ((Please post in the appropriate response below.))

We can partner up? Hmmmm, I wonder who ever will be my partner... ::smiles, gazing upwards innocently::

[[ooc: Yes, you will be having to deal with the couple deemed too cute for words in your class. Ha!]]

*looks around* *Does not think of tying certain class members up with ropes.*

*Also does not think of tying certain professors up with ropes (but only because the mullet would get tangled in the rope fibers)*

"A houdini, huh?" Rogue mutters to herself. As she's tied up, she inhales deeply, expanding her chest, and loosening the ropes. Once everything is secure, she exhales, and starts to wriggle her right arm free. She manages to pull her right arm out, loosing her glove in the process, and feels around for her knife. She finds it in her pocket, and has to wriggle some more to pull it out. As soon as she has, she cuts herself free.

"Now for the hard part." Rogue looks around the bankvault, then walks in a circle touching everything with her now-bare right hand. "Damn." She looks at the drill and the oxegyn tank, wondering...but that's too dangerous.

[[OOC: And will continue below, because my computer hates me.]]

[[OOC: The vault is under construction? Like, it's not completely finished? Or am I reading this wrong?]]

Rogue opens the toolbox and inspects it. Screwdriver, pliers, a roll of electrician's tape... Her eyes light up. Taking the drill, she opens a few saftely deposit boxes until she finds one with a rather large stash of diamonds. Using thin strips of duct tape (cut with her swiss army knife, of course) and a silver chain she found in one of the boxes, she fastens a diamond to the drill bit. Using the strengthened bit, she drills into the lock, until she can see the locking mechanism.

Now she just has to unlock the combination from this side. She uses the screwdriver to move the locking mechanism, and presses her ear to the hole. After ten minutes of trying, she's finally out.

A little flustered but happy, she grins at Mac.

[[I'm assuming the bit wasn't strong enough to drill through the door, so the diamond trick would work. If not, I'll think of something else.]]

Han tenses as the ropes go on. "Ah no, not behind my back. You just hadda make it complicated."

Once left to his devices, he hits the floor, trying to get the bound wrists in front of him by passing his legs through the hoop of his arms. (More difficult than you'd think when the ankles are tied too) Once they are, he twists against the ropes, and brings the knots up to his teeth. Eventually getting his wrists undone, he unties his ankles and looks at the vault.

using the oxygen tank, a strip of his shirt and the duct tape, he rigs an explosive. He uses a spark from drilling through the metal to set another strip of his shirt afire and uses that to light the fuse. He takes refuge at the far end of the vault as the door blows off.

Edward blinks several times, staring at the teacher and wonders what, exactly, he's gotten himself into here. At least this class is interesting.

The being tied up part is easily taken care of, and he doesn't even have to take his arm off this time. Edward dropps the pieces of rope in the middle of the vault and begins inspecting the oxygen tank.

"Highly explosive, pure oxygen," Edward mutters, more to himself. "The question is, how can I make it explode?" He sits back down on the chair and frowns at the tank, which he has propped against the vault door. "Even if I can make a spark, how do I get it to transmit to the oxygen without being right next to the tank?"

Edward scowls, rocking in the chair for a moment. Then he glances down at the chair. Wait. The chair is made of wood. If he can set the chair on fire, beside the tank, that might give him enough time to get to the other side of the vault.

Getting up, Edward smashes the chair into pieces quickly, and makes a pile of wood around the oxygen tank. "Now, just need to figure out a way to make a spark, catch the wood on fire. Dammit, why haven't I swiped a pair of Mustang's gloves yet?"

Edward sorts through the tool box, frowning all the while. Tools were not his specialty, so several of them he couldn't even begin to figure out a name for. He scowls at the wrench, and frowns more. He's very tempted to just wing the hammer at the oxygen tank and hope for the best.

Dropped into the vault, tied up, Krycek takes a moment to look around, figuring out what may be the best bet first off. Shifting and twisting his arms where they're tied behind him, he reaches his knife and manages to open it to cut the ropes tying him.

Using the remains of the rope and the oxygen tank, as well as the duct tape, he rigs a bomb at the door and detonates, taking cover at the back of the room with his jakcet over his head.

"Well, it's not original, but it got me out."

Sam stands awkwardly in the doorway. "Mac, do you have a minute?"

Re: Open Shop/Office Hours

[identity profile] krycek-rat.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, sir," Krycek says, pulling out his leather portfolio to take notes. "Just a few questions so that students can get a feel for you, as a teacher."

Pen at the ready, he looks at Macgyver. "To start, could you tell us a little bit of what you believe makes you best qualified to be a teacher?"

[ooc: Might as well get this started while I think on a solution.]

Still attached to Cally, Anders approaches Mac after class.

"Mac? Cally and I have a sort of long-term project we want to work on in open shop. There's a sport we have back home called Pyramid, and I want to build a court for it so I can practice. Well, me, and Cally, and Kara Thrace, and whoever else is interested." He pulls the diagram (http://www.dyqatt.com/images/pcourtschematic.png) of the court out of his pocket and shows it to Mac. "And we'd be needing a faculty sponsor too, if you'd be interested . . ."
