Shop Class #2

As the students walk in, Mac is busy tinkering with a remote control car. He looks up and smiles and gestures to...

Surrounding the room are a series of small bank vaults.

"Today kids we are going to see how you guys do pulling a houdini. You are all going to be tied up with rope and locked in a bank vault that is currently under constuction. Your goal is to get out of the ropes and break out of the vault. If you wish to partner up with someone you may, or you can work on your own."

Each of the vaults have:
safety deposit boxes - filled with typical stuff you would find there
An oxygen tank
A toolbox with your standard tools
A drill ((Not able to penetrate vault door, walls or lock. Can puncture safety deposit box locks))
A chair
((No power tools available. No cutting torches or welding equipment feel free to add anything you might find in a bank vault))
Of course you will have your virtual Swiss Army Knife and Duct tape with you.

For next Tuesday, you will be required to make a homemade smokescreen to use as a means to escape detection. Please make a list of the items you require and we will replicate it here in the Danger Room Shop.

Sam? I want you to come up with an in-class assignment for next Thursday.

Kitty? Please arrange a time to work with Cally to train her on to use the Danger Room Shop Technology.

Open Shop/Office Hours are here today from 12-4. ((Please post in the appropriate response below.))

Okay, that was less than completely inspiring, Jack. She'd harass him out of it later.

She looked down at her finger, then around the vault for some antiseptic wipes or a gauze pad. She didn't find any. Sighing, she took a strip of duct tape off the roll and wrapped it around her finger.

"Now what?"

*laughing* No one plans to get it.

"Now what? Well, seeing as how only one of us is the teacher's aid I think you should come up with a plan."

Yeah well I'm planning not to. Tests and all that crap...

[OMG I hate LJ and it hates me too! From now on I will always check to make sure my posts and comments actually show up. Dammit.]

Sam rolled her eyes. "Try again. You want half the grade, you do half the work."

Splendid. I'll make sure to tell General Hammond when he shows up. I'm sure he'll be pleased.

[I've been having the same problem lately. Are you going to argue it, or take the detention? At least it's with CJ.]

"I didn't say I wouldn't do anything, I just think you should make a plan. If Colorado taught us anything it's that planning is pretty much useless anyway."

Exstatic.

[I can argue it? Any idea how?]

Sam mumbled something under her breath. She really needed Daniel to teach her to swear in Goa'uld. "Fine."

She looked around. Oxygen tank, hand tools, a drill, a chair, and whatever was in the safety deposit boxes. She frowned. "Right now? I think my plan is to make a very large bomb out of the oxygen tank and blow the door off. Or, we can just rig the angle correctly and use the tank's propulsion to open the door out. The hinges are on the outside, so that's no help."

[It'll probably involve both an IC and OOC appeal to Spider and/or Dean Bristow, and may result in you getting another detention.]

"Between plan A and plan B I'd go with A too. With the hinges on the outside we run a high chance of ricocheting something rather then getting out."

[I'd rather Jack deal with CJ now instead of say Drusilla later. Also? Mun could so teach Sam to swear in Goa'uld. Let me know if you ever write a letter to Teal'c asking.]

"Okay, then. I guess the first step is to roll the tank over to the door, then. Since I've got two working hands, why don't you help me lower it down to the ground, then I'll roll it into position."

She looked at Jack. "Do you think we should check the safe deposit boxes first? No, wait!" She looked up at the ceiling, at the sprinkler. "Check. Is the vault on an electric timer or lock?"

[Probably a good choice. I'll keep you posted about the swearing thing.]

Jack takes a look at all the doohickeys on the back of the door. It takes him a moment to figure out what he's looking for. "I'm pretty positive it's set to timer."

[Thanks and cool.]

Sam grins, a little maniacally. "Excellent."

She takes a saw out of the tool box, and promptly begins cutting a leg off of the chair. "We're going to activate the sprinkler and short out the electrical system. You look through the toolbox and find something that will make a spark, so we can get some smoke going."

"I would just like to say, when I get electrocuted?" Jack started as he searched through the toolbox. "I'm going to come back and hanut you for the ret of your life. All of them."

Huh. "Okay, rusty nail, rusty hammer, good screw, good hammer, good wrench, and a piece of paper that says 'iou 1 flamethrower.' I think the teacher might be a little off."

Re: Shop Class - Please post here for class only

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"You say that like I've never almost electrocuted you before," she mumbled under her breath, finally finished sawing off the chair leg.

Sam laughed. "Okay...take the hammer and nail and hit them against...damn it," she said, looking at his arm, "You hold the paper, and I'll get a spark from the nail and hammer against the walls of the vault. Use that to light the paper, then we'll light the chair leg and wave it under the sprinklers."

She took the rusty nail and the good hammer and stood against the wall closest to the sprinkler head. "Ready when you are."

"I hold the paper while you hold the hammer?" He complained even while doing as she said. "I think I've seen this episode before. If you hit my hand I promise I will milk it for all it's worth and make you suffer."

Re: Shop Class - Please post here for class only

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Shut up and hold the paper still, Ethel." She positioned the nail on the wall, then struck it several times with the hammer. She gouged the vault a little, so she repositioned. If she did this enough times, hopefully the friction would cause enough heat to ignite the paper, even without a spark.

She didn't know how it happened, but eventually the paper lit. She ran to get the chair leg and held the tapered end over the lit paper.

[Okay. Here's the part where the mun shines through, I haven't the slightest clue whatsoever what I'm suppossed to do here. My knowledge of this type of stuff is not to kill myself while playing with fire.]

Re: Shop Class - Please post here for class only

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
[OOC: Okay, it would never happen this way IRL without burning Jack, but in theory, the leg should start to at least smolder. The smoke should set off the sprinkler, which should short out the electrical system, which should trigger the electric timer, which should open the door automagically. Without exploding anything, either. Janet would be so proud.]

[So pretty much Jack should notice the chair smoking and then get all wet, right?]

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
[He should stick his hand up in the air and wave the smoking stick near the sprinkler first--I think he's still taller.]

Re: Shop Class - Please post here for class only

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, he's scrawney, so tall and gawky is his game right now.]

Re: Shop Class - Please post here for class only

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Suddenly the leg started to smoke. Once a sufficiently thick plume of smoke started to rise Jack grabbed the leg and waved it through the air. After nearly a minute Jack heard the small clink and the sprinklers came on.

"This is a hologram, right? Why are we wet?"

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Why are you able to hold onto the virtual knife?" She asked, wiping wet hair out of her eyes and pulling her now damp t-shirt away from her body. "Just wait for the timer to go off so we can get out of here."

A few minutes later, the vault went dark and the door opened a crack. "C'mon," she said, throwing her weight against it. "I think it'll take both of us since we're both so puny."

Re: Shop Class - Please post here for class only

[Thanks. :) We'll be here all night!]

Re: Shop Class - Please post here for class only

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Jack followed suit and slammed the right half of his body against the door.

"Here's to hoping. I'm not puny! I'm lithe."

Re: Shop Class - Please post here for class only

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Sam pushed forward, and the door opened a little further. "We're getting it." She planted her feet and pushed harder.

"I believe the phrase you're looking for is wiry."

Re: Shop Class - Please post here for class only

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-10-22 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Jack shoved harder against the door, and it pushed open more.

"That too."
