Shop Class #2
As the students walk in, Mac is busy tinkering with a remote control car. He looks up and smiles and gestures to...
Surrounding the room are a series of small bank vaults.
"Today kids we are going to see how you guys do pulling a houdini. You are all going to be tied up with rope and locked in a bank vault that is currently under constuction. Your goal is to get out of the ropes and break out of the vault. If you wish to partner up with someone you may, or you can work on your own."
Each of the vaults have:
safety deposit boxes - filled with typical stuff you would find there
An oxygen tank
A toolbox with your standard tools
A drill ((Not able to penetrate vault door, walls or lock. Can puncture safety deposit box locks))
A chair
((No power tools available. No cutting torches or welding equipment feel free to add anything you might find in a bank vault))
Of course you will have your virtual Swiss Army Knife and Duct tape with you.
For next Tuesday, you will be required to make a homemade smokescreen to use as a means to escape detection. Please make a list of the items you require and we will replicate it here in the DangerRoom Shop.
Sam? I want you to come up with an in-class assignment for next Thursday.
Kitty? Please arrange a time to work with Cally to train her on to use the DangerRoom Shop Technology.
Open Shop/Office Hours are here today from 12-4. ((Please post in the appropriate response below.))

Open Shop/Office Hours
"There are wood and metal materials in the supply closet. Remember! Safety first."
"Oh Krycek? Aren't you supposed to interview me for the paper?"
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
"Sure thing Sam. Everything okay?"
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
She paused, then said, "I also wanted to thank you for the TA job. I kind of made a mess of things on Tuesday, so I'm sorry for that. But what exactly are my duties?
Other than flattering the mullet, of course."Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
"I think we have enough room in the supply closet to store your Harley. You're welcome to work on it here during Open Shop hours as well."
"As for your responsibilities as a TA, I'd like you to work with the students whenever possible if they get stuck trying to solve a solution. If I'm not available for class, I'll need you to cover for me and make sure no one harms themselves. I'd also like you to come up with your own class assignments every other week or so. I'll let you run the assignment with my supervision. You should probably also get with Kitty so you can be trained on how to use the Danger Shop. How does that sound?"
((OOC:Also I'll be going out of the country sometime in Jan/Feb timeframe for two weeks so I'll need you to cover me for classes.))
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
"Good. It's good to know what you expect from me ahead of time. Any hints on the class assignments?
And I was going to try and bribe Kitty anyway..."((OOC: Okay. Just remind me, please. I have a brain like a sieve sometimes.))
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
((I'll give you plenty of warning. Before I'll leave I'll give you a list of classes to follow. I may have another professor sit it to supervise, but you will run the class.))
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
Now all she had to do was brainstorm by next Thursday.
((OOC: Thanks.))
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
Pen at the ready, he looks at Macgyver. "To start, could you tell us a little bit of what you believe makes you best qualified to be a teacher?"
[ooc: Might as well get this started while I think on a solution.]
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
"Well I don't really have a formal education per se. Mostly stuff I picked up on my own. I think what I have to offer the most is the ability to give a students a different way of approaching a problem and helping them find a solution. "
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
"The first time I was here in FandomHigh, I heard about a student who found herself locked in a dishwasher for over three hours. I think if she had been in this class first she might have been in there twenty minutes tops."
"I've also heard about Zombie invasions, Gremlin attacks and general gripes about the weapons ban. The point of these exercises are to help the student realize that whatever situation he or she may be in, there's always a solution. You just have to look for it. My manner of teaching may unorthodox, but I think it gets the point across."

"Mac? Cally and I have a sort of long-term project we want to work on in open shop. There's a sport we have back home called Pyramid, and I want to build a court for it so I can practice. Well, me, and Cally, and Kara Thrace, and whoever else is interested." He pulls the diagram (http://www.dyqatt.com/images/pcourtschematic.png) of the court out of his pocket and shows it to Mac. "And we'd be needing a faculty sponsor too, if you'd be interested . . ."
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
"Never heard of the game before, but if you put together a rule book and get it cleared with Dean Bristow you can use the Danger Shop to simulate the environment. I'll be happy to be the faculty advisor if someone can explain the game to me. It doesn't involve any ritual killings or embalming does it? I think it would be nice for the school to have a team sport."
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
"Well.... Other than detention the only times the shop is unavailable are Tuesday mornings and Thursdays. Evenings would be free on those days. However if you want to build a court, you're free to do during Thursday afternoons when the shop is open to make your game equipment. If Dean Bristow approves."
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
So, I guess we gotta wait for administration approval on this. Tell you what, you come up with a rule book, and I'll talk to the dean about it? He did kinda say he respected me after my last visit, so... ::smile::

He pulls himself to a stop with visible effort. "Right. I'll put together a rulebook. Thanks."
Re: Open Shop/Office Hours
"Make sure you talk with Dean Bristow regarding the game and tell him I'll be the faculty advisor. You may want to consider some safety equipment for the game if there's going to be tackling involved."
