Timing had worked in Bruce's favor this morning. After a long overnight flight from Japan, he was really early for the shuttle to Fandom. That was according to plan. This way he'd get to see how people came into the room marked "Fandom High," whether they were nervous, or excited, or annoyed at the very thought of having to go to school.

Those first impressions didn't necessarily mean anything, but Bruce felt they often gave a good insight into how his new classmates would react in a stressful situation. You never knew when that kind of thing might come in handy.

Claudia, dragging a suitcase bigger than she was (that may occasionally clank suspiciously), definitely didn't look too pleased to be here. "Resigned" was more the word for it. She looked around the room a little suspiciously, then dragged the suitcase over to the wall and sat on it.

Well, hopefully she at least wouldn't be the only new kid in town.

"Are you sure you packed enough?" Jacob asked, laughter in his voice.

Hey, scientific equipment took up a lot of space.

Claudia tilted her head and smirked back. "Nope. I'll be naked by the time the week's out."

That much . . . might even be true. Scientific equipment took up a lot of space.

Oh sure, give him naked images before even saying your name. There had to be some sort of etiquette against that. Not that Jacob cared about etiquette.

"You're in luck then. They actually invented this thing called a washing machine. It lets you clean your clothes so you can wear them again instead of tossing them out," he said, just being a smartass now. "It's handy, a lot cheaper, too."

"The fines for public nudity can be pretty hefty," Claudia agreed. "But what if I run out of quarters?"

"Bath tub and soap?" he suggested. "Hey, who knows. Some kind soul might borrow you one so you don't stink up the whole class."

Bruce was almost surprised he hadn't seen that look more so far. "It seems like you're ready for school," he said.

"So you're one of those very dedicated students," Bruce joked. That was his second joke of the day. Truly, his attempts at being social were working out.

"You need help with that bag?" Gunn asked listening to the thing clank. "Or is it about to morph into one those robot things that are more than meets the eye?"

"I'm good," Claudia said, filing the 'morphing robot suitcase' away as a possible future project. "And if it were a robot, I'd totally make it walk itself."

"Or something." Hey, he was the one who brought up robots. "I mostly figure if an inanimate object is self-propelled, it should propel itself. Not make people do all its work for it."

"My, my, look at all the guys just dying to swoop to my rescue." Claudia smirked. "Got it all the way here, I think I can handle it a little longer."

". . . I looked like I was having trouble?" Her suitcase had been a pain, sure -- that centrifuge, especially, was pretty heavy -- but she didn't think she'd been obvious about it.
