BWI Airport, Portalocity Port, Saturday Morning

Timing had worked in Bruce's favor this morning. After a long overnight flight from Japan, he was really early for the shuttle to Fandom. That was according to plan. This way he'd get to see how people came into the room marked "Fandom High," whether they were nervous, or excited, or annoyed at the very thought of having to go to school.

Those first impressions didn't necessarily mean anything, but Bruce felt they often gave a good insight into how his new classmates would react in a stressful situation. You never knew when that kind of thing might come in handy.

[OOC: OCD is coming up!]

Fraser was not the one driving. Fraser was the one assisting because no one wanted him to drive. It'd be a terrible thing. Nevertheless, Fraser was standing ramrod straight, smiling widely at the new students.

Claudia glanced between the uniformed, stick-up-his-butt looking dude and the man in the face covering pajamas. For the first time ever, the uniformed dude seemed to be the one who was less off-putting.

". . . Are all the bus drivers around here ninjas?"

"No," he informed her easily, shaking his head. "I'm not. I'm a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police but have never resembled a ninja. Professor Wilson is just...eccentric."

Lies! Frasier is totally a ninja.

"You're a mountie. In . . . Maryland. I might have my geography way off, but isn't this kinda far away from Canada?"

He's modest!

"It is," he said, nodding his agreement with that. "While I don't work in Canada, I'm still a member of the RCMP. I'm more of a liaison while I'm here. I'm head of security at the school while still reporting to the Canadian consulate."

The 'ramrod straight' didn't really make Kurt feel at ease. "Is this a military school?" he had to ask. He hadn't THOUGHT it was...

Re: Trip to Fandom

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's not a military school," Fraser assured him. "It's just a regular high school."

Well, that wasn't entirely true but Fraser thought Kurt would want to discover that on his own.

"So... Why are you standing like that?"

Re: Trip to Fandom

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"This is how I always stand," Fraser replied. "I'm Constable Fraser, a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police."

He thought that explained it all.

As soon as he saw the Canadian cop standing at the bus, Gunn swore under his breath and assumed the position against the bus to be patted down.

"Damn lawyers sent me across the country just to get busted," he grumbled.

Fraser squinted at the young man and maintained his position. "Are you all right, young man? Is there something I can help you with?"

Re: Trip to Fandom

[identity profile] bigbadgunn.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just read me my rights and get on with it," Gunn said over his shoulder. "I ain't carrying anything."

Re: Trip to Fandom

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not here to arrest you, I assure you," Fraser said, shaking his head. "I'm employed by the school you're to be attending and just helping Professor Wilson with the bus trip."

There was a masked freak behind the wheel and a guy in uniform in front of the bus. It was enough to make Jacob pause.

"We're going to a school, right?" Jacob checked. "Because I think there's some kind of rule against getting in a car with a masked dude."

"He's harmless," Fraser said, waving that off. "He's on the school faculty and has been for years. I assure you, he's odd but he's trustworthy."

Jacob sniffed the air. Didn't smell like vampire. "You always dress up when you come pick up new students?"

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
"That's what Professor Wilson wears all the time and I'm in uniform," he told Jacob. "We both typically dress like this, yes."

Ah, someone his own age -- and someone who carried himself like law enforcement, no less. Henry had been on the wrong end of a cop's bad day too often to entirely trust police, but if anyone knew if he was in the right place or not, it seemed like this man was a good place to start.

"Hi, excuse me, I'm supposed to start a job at Fandom High," he introduced himself. "Would you know if the shuttle is for staff, too? I feel a little out of place."

Re: Trip to Fandom

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
"It is, indeed. Welcome," Fraser said, extending a hand. "I'm Constable Benton Fraser, head of school security. The students tend to outnumber the adults so I understand feeling out of place."

Re: Trip to Fandom

[identity profile] one-who-goes.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Henry took the hand and shook it firmly. "Benton," he repeated. "I'm Henry DeTamble. Someone seems to think I can run a school library."

He glanced around the lounge again. "I already feel outnumbered. Any chance they're breeding while we aren't looking?"

Re: Trip to Fandom

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
That surprised a laugh out of Fraser and he shook his head. "I wouldn't know, Mr. DeTamble. Thankfully, I don't tend to hear that much about that part of their lives."

"I thought this was an American school," Roy said, eying the Mountie slightly warily.

Re: Trip to Fandom

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"It is," he said, nodding his assent. "I'm attached to the Canadian consulate and working both as the head of school security and a liaison."

Re: Trip to Fandom

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
"No," he laughed, shaking his head. "Before being employed here, I was employed in Chicago and attached to the Canadian consulate there. That's still where I'm attached. It's just a little further of distances now."
