BWI Airport, Portalocity Port, Saturday Morning

Timing had worked in Bruce's favor this morning. After a long overnight flight from Japan, he was really early for the shuttle to Fandom. That was according to plan. This way he'd get to see how people came into the room marked "Fandom High," whether they were nervous, or excited, or annoyed at the very thought of having to go to school.

Those first impressions didn't necessarily mean anything, but Bruce felt they often gave a good insight into how his new classmates would react in a stressful situation. You never knew when that kind of thing might come in handy.

~~He's modest!~~

"It is," he said, nodding his agreement with that. "While I don't work in Canada, I'm still a member of the RCMP. I'm more of a liaison while I'm here. I'm head of security at the school while still reporting to the Canadian consulate."

This guy ran school security. Oh. That was going to be fun.

"So are you, like, so super-good at your job that they gave you a special assignment, or were they just kinda worried for national security if they kept you in the country?"

"I believe I'm very good at my job," he told her, nodding. "As for the reasons I'm here, they're not that important. I'm here and I've been here for over three years now."

Claudia totally took that as meaning he got kicked out of his country.

"Guess you must really like it here, huh?"

"It's a very interesting place to live," he said. That was sort of a yes. "For such a small island, it's never lacking in things to do."

"Mrs. Frederic made it sound like a reform school for weirdos and head-cases." Which would explain why a security professional would never get bored, she supposed.

It also implied that she was a weirdo or a head-case. Which . . . okay, was kinda true.

"It's most definitely not a reform school," Fraser said, shaking his head. "We accept any and all students who'd like to attend. There's no need for any disciplinary action to have been taken for admittance to be granted."

"I notice you didn't deny the weirdos and head-cases bit."

"I don't make judgments about those that attend," he explained. "I didn't deny it but I also didn't confirm it. Labels are inhibiting."

"How very life-affirming of you."

"It's served me well for the most part," he allowed, shrugging. "You're welcome to disagree, of course. Disagreement makes things interesting."

Okay, this guy was entirely too upbeat about everything. "You might regret telling me that at some point."

She was pretty sure she was going to have at least one disagreement with the school's security, while she was here.

"I doubt it," he said, shaking his head cheerfully. "There's very few things I regret."

"I'll be holding you to that if I get in trouble."

"If you get in trouble, I'm sure we'll have a few different things to talk about but I'm always willing to listen to both sides of a story," he said diplomatically.

"I'm totally going to hold you to that."

"Very well," he said. "I look forward to hearing from you in the future then."

"It'll probably be interesting, if nothing else. I'll see you around, Mountie-Man."
