Ethics Class [Thursday, September 10, 1st period]

"Today we discuss lying," Anakin said as he closed the classroom door precisely on time. "Everyone lies. 'Of course that doesn't make your butt look big.' 'You like her, I like her.' 'I'm totally okay with you moving on.' 'Everything's fine, why do you ask?' It's how the world goes around because no one wants to be trapped in a conversation where someone whines at you for hours on end about how awful their life is."

He looked around the room. "Trust me. Everyone's life is terrible. They're just not telling you about it. Be grateful."

He reached onto his desk for a piece of paper. "Today we're conducting an exercise to see how well you pass this particular social ritual, then we'll discuss whether you think it is necessary. We're playing two truths and a lie. I'll tell you three things about myself and you have to decide which one is the falsehood. Then you'll all tell three things and we'll see how well you can either read each other or keep things hidden."

He gave them a small smile. "I'm very good at this." He schooled his face to absolute neutrality, put his mental blocks up to bar any psychics in the room from gaining an advantage, then recited: "During a war at home I was known as 'The Hero Without Fear.' I have three children. I am the youngest Jedi ever to join the Jedi Council, which governed my Order." His eyes challenged them to call him out. "Who's next?"

Karla didn't think it would be fair to play this game. She knew one truth for a fact and was fairly certain Ben had mentioned the other during a conversation.

She very much wished to request permission to call him 'Hero' if they guessed correctly, but decided to keep quiet.

And to try not to grin.

Raven was quite certain she knew the answer to this due to her discussions with Anakin. "I know which one is a lie," she said, "but it is based on knowledge gained outside the class room, not on any reading of you I could have done here." Not that she could have anyway because his shields were stronger than her ability to push through.

So if Jaina and Ben were cousins and there was the baby, the second one had to be right. And there was no way ever, Rose was telling Professor Skywalker to his face that he was scared of something. So...

Emma reached out to look...

...and was very firmly blocked. Well, that was no fun, even if she wasn't surprised. Karla's Skywalker had a tricky brain, so it probably ran in the family.

"Number three," she guessed. He had the attitude for the first, at least, even if he didn't look old enough for three kids.

Okay, so Bobby knew well enough given his own experiences that the guy- young a he looked- could totally have been in a war. He had no idea what a Jedi Council was, so he was just gonna ignore that (sound strategic thinking there, really). Which left option number two. Because old enough to have seen war or not, this guy totally was too young for three kids. "Uh, that second one," he said.

Raven was not really much of a liar (unless it came to denying her own distress), but she took a breath, shielded herself, and made the attempt.

"Before I came to Fandom, I had never used a computer. I have never tasted meat. In my home of Azarath, my name means 'Messenger Angel.'"

How come Katchoo always got stuck playing this game in class? So awkward.

"My best friend's in this class," she said, wondering how many people would think it was insane that she even had a best friend. "I've never gotten married on a cruise ship, and, uh . . . geez. I've never been to Chicago."

Gawd. She hated this game.

Ellie waited for anyone to try to guess correctly.

"I live in Manhattan, I have two sisters, and I'm allergic to coffee," Emma said, oddly amused at this game. None of them was 100% true, but only one was a complete lie.

Oh, Bobby so sucked at this game. He barely even remembered to use code names in the field and that was only sort of lying.

"Uh, I've been to Antarctica, I've never been on a date, and my other school only has five students." He still wasn't about to call it his 'old' school, no.

Karla had to think of things that her friends in the class wouldn't know outright. Which unfortunately took 'I can fly' and 'my best friend stopped the sun' off the table. "I can poison you with just a touch, my current art instructor--back home, I mean--first became famous for his work five hundred years ago, and I am immune to all varieties of poison."

Well, this was almost unfair to the others. Lying was one of her particular skills.

Jonas had just recently learned what lying was in comparison to most of his classmates. He didn't think he'd do well at this activity.

"My mom's a really good cook, I almost died due to extremely cold temperatures and I didn't always see in color."

That was...surprisingly easy and a lot less revealing that he originally feared he might be.

Tara's attention was on her notebook, and she shifted uncomfortably before speaking. "I started learning magic when I was seven. I'm allergic to shrimp." She gave Ellie a slight apologetic smile for repeating one of her choices. "I have a big sister named Beth."

Elena fidgeted slightly in her chair. She didn't like revealing information about herself. She chose three statements that seemed fairly innocuous.

"I have never owned a pet," she said calmly. "I am the oldest of three girls. I attended a military academy, before this school."

Oh, Yuffie hated this game. Hated it like crazy.

"My mother died when I was really young. One of my best friends has a tendency to turn into crazy, insane monsters. I love to fly."

Francine wasn't really feeling the creativity today. "Francine isn't my real first name, somebody nailed my ear to a door once, and my brother used to date an axe murderer."

There, guess the obvious one quick, so she doesn't have to talk and can go back to not looking at Katchoo.
