Ethics Class [Thursday, September 10, 1st period]

"Today we discuss lying," Anakin said as he closed the classroom door precisely on time. "Everyone lies. 'Of course that doesn't make your butt look big.' 'You like her, I like her.' 'I'm totally okay with you moving on.' 'Everything's fine, why do you ask?' It's how the world goes around because no one wants to be trapped in a conversation where someone whines at you for hours on end about how awful their life is."

He looked around the room. "Trust me. Everyone's life is terrible. They're just not telling you about it. Be grateful."

He reached onto his desk for a piece of paper. "Today we're conducting an exercise to see how well you pass this particular social ritual, then we'll discuss whether you think it is necessary. We're playing two truths and a lie. I'll tell you three things about myself and you have to decide which one is the falsehood. Then you'll all tell three things and we'll see how well you can either read each other or keep things hidden."

He gave them a small smile. "I'm very good at this." He schooled his face to absolute neutrality, put his mental blocks up to bar any psychics in the room from gaining an advantage, then recited: "During a war at home I was known as 'The Hero Without Fear.' I have three children. I am the youngest Jedi ever to join the Jedi Council, which governed my Order." His eyes challenged them to call him out. "Who's next?"

Morgana shifted uncomfortably and tried to decide what to share.

"I was orphaned as a child, I cannot stand ice cream, and I was once almost killed by a tiny bug."

Since Jonas didn't know what the second one was (he lived a deprived childhood) but knew that the smallest things could easily kill (he'd seen his father with that needle), he went with the only one that was leftover.

"The first is the lie," he decided fairly confidently.

"Alas, the first is true," she said. "Both of my parents died when I was very young assuming they don't pull my mother out of the woodwork this season. Ice cream, however, is one of my new favorite things."

"The second is the lie," Bobby declared, basing that entirely on the fact that no one could hate ice cream. It just wasn't possible.

...Unless it were salad ice cream. He could see hating that.

"Indeed, it is," Morgana said. "I have come to greatly appreciate ice cream since I came here."

"Hating ice cream is the lie," Karla said immediately. "Otherwise, I'm going to have to assume your some kind of evil creature and demand the real Morgana's return."

Besides, Karla knew just how deadly tiny creatures could be--there was a reason no one ventured into Arachnia--and she didn't think Morgana the type to lie about being orphaned.

"I blame Francine for converting me and making me addicted," Morgana said with a laugh. "I assure you, I am not an evil creature."

"Good," Karla said, sighing in relief. "Otherwise I'd have to do something drastic. And I think you meant, 'thank Francine.' Ice cream's wonderful."

"No one can hate ice cream," Emma decided loftily, "unless you're lactose intolerant or something."

"It is a very difficult food to hate, isn't it?" Morgana said. "Especially when there are so many flavors."

"How could anyone hate ice cream?" Hayley said. It wasn't so much of a guess, really.

"Perhaps some people prefer warm desserts?" Morgana suggested.

"But even then, you could mix the two! Pie and ice cream!" Hayley said.
