Practical Weaponry [Wednesday, Period Four]
Bond waited outside of the Danger Shop until all of his class had arrived. When they went inside, the room had taken on the appearance of a city devoid of life and eerily silent.
"I do hope you all remembered your zombie plans from our first class," Bond said from the doorway, checking his watch. "Since the zombie apocalypse and your final are both scheduled to start in about five minutes. Anyone who's still alive at the end of the class passes. That is unless you managed to cause the undeath of a classmate in the process, in which case you fail. Have fun."
With that he locked the door of the Danger Shop behind them. A faint groaning could be heard in the distance.

Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
As well as the usual things you might expect to find in the average household, thanks to the Second Amendment you'll be able to find pistols and shotguns, as well as ammo for them both.
Of course, if you can get in, other...people might be able to as well.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
She did use Craft to pass through walls and doors though. It wasn't an offensive use of her powers (yet) and it wouldn't deny people shelter if there were still civilians inside.
She scoured the the downstairs first, looking for weapons before calling a tentative "Hello? Any survivors here?" Thank the Darkness her training with Triela meant that she could load the pistol easily enough and probably not shoot herself when she used it. She kept her finger on the safety so she could slide it off as needed.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
Something moved in the shadows in response.
The shuffling gait suggested it wasn't a survivor.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
Which would make a pretty good threat if she hadn't been working from a completely different frame of reference. As it was, she was being quite sincere and polite.
"Though I must warn you, I won't hesitate to send you back to the Darkness if you prove to be a threat."
That was a little better.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
Either the zombie didn't understand what Karla was saying, or it didn't care. It ambled into the light, sniffing the air. It gave a low groan.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
Of course, now that Karla thought about it, this was all magic made by Professor Bond, who knew nothing of the demon-dead, so really it hadn't been a possibility anyway. Well, Hell's fire.
Karla shifted into the stance Triela had taught her, shifted the safety off and fired. She wasn't an expert marksman, but she was patient and fairly calm. It helped that she didn't really understand what zombies did. It likely took several rounds, but she wasn't going to stop firing until the zombie dropped or she was all out of

With a sound that was likely to put Karla off eating melons for life, the zombie's head exploded, its body swaying in place for several seconds before falling.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
The moment of revulsion passed--aided by Karla searching the house rather than hanging around in the same room as the creature. She still had a job to do, and that was find any remaining civilians.
Once this house was scoured, she moved onto the next.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
First, though, she had to get in. She carefully stuck close to the edge of the building, looking for an open window or hole that she could slip into; busting down the door would draw too much attention.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
Turtle might have wanted to work quickly though, as there were a couple of zombies slowly shuffling down the road.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
The low groan might have been an indication to Turtle that the zombies had seen her and were headed towards her. Good thing they weren't in any hurry, but it would be cutting it close.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
Turtle knew there wasn't much time to be glad that she got in before the zombies got to her if they were headed her way, and she took a quick look around the room to see what was in it. She looked for anything that could barricade the window, but saw little that could help her. There was a door to a hallway down the way, though, it looked like, so she got up and hurried as quick as she could without making noise to get behind that door.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
As Turtle got to the door, the first hand reached into the room. A low groan could be heard as the zombie tried to clamber its way in as best it could with only minimal brain activity. The other zombie was nowhere to be seen. Wasn't that worrying?
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
The fact that zombies couldn't handle doorknobs meant that Turtle gained some time as the zombies slowly pushed the door open through leaning on it. But they were still following her.

Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
Several zombies had started to gather at the bottom of the fire escape, thankfully not coordinated enough to climb a ladder. They were attracting attention of other zombies though, and a low grumbling and groaning had started to echo out from the horde. There was no turning back now, unless you wanted to have a death-long cranial craving.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
"Gotta get Triela to give me some more lessons with a gun." She muttered a spell in Elvish that created an illusion of herself on the second to the bottom most level of the fire escape. She had no idea if it would fool the living dead.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
The illusion worked at first until the zombies realized that the smell wasn't quite right. Still, it lasted them a good few minutes. In the meantime, there was a quiet thudding coming from the door to the inside of the building, as if someone was banging their head softly against the other side. There didn't seem to be any action coming from that way yet though.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
The illusion saw the zombies, screamed, and ran.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
Now that was more like it! The zombies loved a screamer. The horde turned and went to follow the illusion. It was downwind, so it would take them a while to figure out it wasn't real.
The thudding on the other side of the door kept happening. Slowly.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
Then she descended the fire escape quickly.
Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
The thumper on the other side seemed content with having someone to talk to and kept on thumping. The alleyway below remained clear.

Re: Abandoned Buildings - PW [Week 7]
Unfortunately, he hadn't picked the right building. There were no discarded weapons up here. He was about to try the door leading into the building when he saw the roof of the next building over. It was flat, and lower than this one, and had a tarp as a roof over a table littered with equipment. Someone had been there before. The only catch was he was going to have to risk jumping across the alleyway between the buildings to get there.
Not real, Reese assured himself, and he gave himself a running start before making the jump. He landed, tucked into a roll and looked back at where he'd been once he came to a stop. "I hate doing that." He made his way over to the equipment table. Someone had definitely set up shop here. He helped himself to their stash, taking a shotgun with a strap to sling over his back and stuffed his pockets with ammo. The semi-automatic rifle came next and the bag of ammo went over the other shoulder.
Then he made his way to the edge of the roof, crouched down and started taking potshots at zombies from there. He really should have thought to make sure the roof door was secure first.
