Library (And Support Services): Friday, 7/31

Francine had trekked out to the park early to put up signs at the usual meeting place that matched the ones on the library doors:

Support Services Is Meeting In The Library Today and Tomorrow!

If you heard Mayor Summers' announcement, you know there's something going on. If you didn't hear Mayor Summers' announcement, there's something going on. Please come in and help research anything you can find about vampires, alternate universes, narcolepsy, sleep visions, or anything else that seems like it might help!

Everyone welcome.

Free cookies!

There were always free cookies.

There was also a worried Francine with a brand new hairstyle (for those who haven't been dreaming of other places, anyway) hovering back and forth between the books and the food.

[OOC: Open to all! And muchas gracias to [livejournal.com profile] cautiousfellow for letting us commandeer his library.]

Karla showed up, pecking at some cookies. She wasn't hungry, not at all, but she needed to eat. If nothing else, her dreams showed her exactly what would happen if she didn't. Gaunt just wasn't her color.

It was entirely stupid coincidence and her player thinking she's funny that Gabrielle still had the fading bite marks on her neck by this point in the week. Under any other circumstances she'd have gone into squeaky, flaily spasms of glee over the library (even if it wasn't a surprise any more), but if people were in trouble she knew how to buckle down.

With cookies, of course.

There were vampires involved. Of course Mitchell arrived at the library - after placing an important call home - rubbing the back of his head and looking slightly shiftier than usual.

A very concerned Claire showed up after dragging Savannah to Town Hall and checking to make sure Dinah had handwavily gotten there safely as well.

She wasn't really hungry, but she grabbed a cup of coffee, dumped in a ton of sugar and cream, and was ready to hit the books.

Fiona came to the library because it was where the books were, even more so than her room. That there was a support services meeting there was just icing.

Hoshi was still struggling to stay awake as she made it to the library, fortified with plenty of Gunther's strongest coffee. But she was fading quickly. She was standing by the snack table and nibbling on a cookie, hoping she didn't doze off mid-bite.

There was a lot to do, but first, Harper picked up a couple of cookies. She needed the sugar to keep her energy up through the research.

Mina arrived after making sure she was not needed elsewhere. She'd already looked at books about dreams, but it looks like her earlier research was on the wrong topic.

Alex helped herself to a cookie and a cup of coffee, hoping she would find something that might help. Funny how she and Ino were discussing things last night and then the announcement was made.

Vampires. Didn't see that one coming.

Jack didn't have anything better to do, so he figured he'd hang around the library and see what was going on. Later, when there were things to shoot at, he'd do that instead.

Robin arrived, on his skate board of all things. It would help, honest.

Alex had tea, and had brought donuts. She'd never done medical research before, but she'd burned the midnight oil enough times for exams in law school that it felt familiar anyway.

After the station and a brief patrol Reese moved to the school, first time here and she was going to the library. She saw the coffee and made a beeline there before anything else. No telling if this sleeping sickness thing was catching but she hoped coffee would help.

Kyle was late, but he was here. He mostly stayed to the edges, getting his bearings and watching people and listening.

Elle didn't know what the hell was going on, but she knew it was something Not Right, and thusly she wanted to know what the hell it really was.

Which was why she was parked in the library, pouring over a book.

After grabbing something with caffeine in it, Ellie settled at a table with a few books. She hadn't been experiencing any of the symptoms, but she wanted to help those that were. She could definitely research.

Gabrielle grabbed a stack of several as-yet unclaimed books, careful to set her cookies and coffee well away from them, and settled down to read. Reading as problem-solving? Really? Wow, that was new. Xena just usually went right in and did that cut-off-the-flow-of-blood-to-your-brain interrogation thing to get answers out of people.

. . . she ended up having to stifle a giggle at the mental image of Xena trying to do that to a book.

And then frowned as what she was reading began to sink in. "I thought I just got away from this!"

[OOC: And again, the Bacchae thing is totally unrelated, but if any of you want to play around with research red herrings, feel free to ask her WTF she's going on about.]

Karla had called in all of the books she'd brought with her from home and also had those stacked on the table in the library for people to go through. She didn't think it would hurt to have as many different books on Craft out as possible. Maybe this was some kind of Black Widow thing?

It would be easier to tell if she could just focus on the books. But her vision kept going blurry. Those enforced naps were the only sleep she was getting these past few days.

Tara's book was of the Ye Thamaturgicale Beastiary ... variety. There wasn't much in it about vampires that she didn't know, but the illustrated anecdotes would give her nightmares even if the island hadn't. There was this one about children...

She shivered and turned the page.

As much as Jack usually went for the food at a thing like this, that wasn't when things were at crisis point. He'd taken one of the books written in German out of the stacks, since he knew so many of the others only read English, and was carefully flickering through it trying to find anything that might help.

"Why would anyone care that there's a world without prawns? How would you even know?"

Into the books she went, focusing on quantum physics and the nature of reality. And she had a couple of books on mythology as well; maybe if she could figure out what was going on with the fabric of life, she could be more useful.
