Food Appreciation [Class Two, Period #3]

"Hey guys!" Marshall said, his mouth full of...something. He chewed and swallowed before talking again. "Today we're going to be talking about bar food."

He pointed at the long table in the front where there was various kinds of finger foods. "Bar food is used to soak up the alcohol in your system so you don't get so drunk that you're unable to hit on somebody. Or, if you're happily married, it's there to munch on while you watch your single friends hit on people. Either way, it's good. If you hit up a bar during happy hour then you can find this stuff for real cheap. You know when it's even cheaper? Right before closing because the bar is trying to get rid of the food."

Marshall knew a lot about bars.

"Okay, so bar food is mostly stuff you eat with your hands. Nachos, french fries, pretzels, beer nuts, onion rings, mozzarella sticks. If you're real lucky there will be some sliders on the menu," Marshall said, pointing to the burgers on the table. "And, last but certainly not least, buffalo wings. For those of you who aren't familiar with them, they aren't made of buffalo. They're chicken. And they come in different levels of heat. I prefer the more mild stuff but if I'm feeling particularly daring and there's enough blue cheese dressing around then I can crank it up to hot."

"So you've got a little bit of everything up here to dig into. There's the usual array of drinks in the back of the room," Marshall said. "There's also non-alcoholic beer and margaritas back there too. I tend to stay away from those but you guys go right ahead."

After some careful consideration, Ned grabbed a basket of mozzarella sticks (with sauce) and started eating.

They were surprisingly good for probably clogging his arteries and knocking eighteen years off his life.

Kaylee was going to tousle his hair as she scurried past to get her own food, but at the last second realized that that might be bad because he'd try to fix it and he had greasy hands and that would be icky and it would probably upset him!

Kaylee put too much thought into these things.

So she just dropped a kiss on the top of his head, and went to get herself some cheese fries.

Firekeeper wrinkled her nose at the smell of the fermented-grain beverages, but that didn't stop her from picking out a basket of nachos and some french fries to munch on.

As he had done the week before, Dean loaded down a plate with a little of everything. Hey, he wanted to be a conscientious student after all.

Priestly was hoping not to get any greasy fingerprints or spilled sauces on his "I sell crack for the CIA" t-shirt, since he'd heard about the laundry strike.

So, you know, he grabbed a bunch of napkins to go with the cheese fries and buffalo wings.

Amber fixed a full plate. Nachos and wings (with tons of blue cheese dressing!), and cheese fries.

She was just going to sit quietly and pretend she was in heaven. She was starving, okay.

Molly snagged some nachos and a non-alcoholic margarita. Maybe Edmund was right about this whole going to class being worth it thing.

Andros hadn't tried nachos before so that's what he picked, after a few bites he was surprised to find that it was actually rather good.

Francine had never actually been in a bar -- including Caritas -- when she wasn't under the influence of psychotic stripper possession, so the whole spread was new to her.

Not that she hadn't had most of the items individually before, but it had never occurred to her until today that buffalo wings dipped in the sauce from the cheese fries could be -- well, let's just say there were sounds made that are usually confined to non-classroom-appropriate activities.

Mac didn't know a whole lot about eating bar food in bars, but she did know the food. It was the sort of thing her parents had tried to get her to eat a lot when she was younger.

She tucked hair behind her ears, and set to work snagging a little of everything.

This was heaven. Peyton got a good sized plate of food - nachos, hot wings, onion wings, mozzarella sticks - and settled down to enjoy.

Momoko stared at the selection, unsure really where to start when it was all snacky foods. She finally grabbed a few of the 'buffalo wings' and some of the blue cheese dressing that Mr Erickson had mentioned. And some nachos for good measure.

She settled for water to drink.

Sam looked over the food and ended up just taking some buffalo wings. At least he could tell himself the chicken part was fairly healthy.

Kaylee had never had cheese fries before.

And Kaylee being Kaylee, she wasn't worried about her figure or her skin or anything, now that she'd met the joy that is bar food. She just wanted to eat this stuff for every meal every day.

Alex might have taken a little of every thing. It all looked so good and she hadn't had breakfast that day, so why not try it all? She seriously loved this class.

Harry was going to do his best to eat everything. Starting with nachos. Nachos and wings. And some onion rings, because onions were a vegetable, right? So that was a balanced meal. Sure.

"I'm a little worried," he said to no one in particular. "That one day I'm gonna wake up and be taking advanced calculus and ancient literature and all these classes will have been a dream."
