"Hey guys!" Marshall said, his mouth full of...something. He chewed and swallowed before talking again. "Today we're going to be talking about bar food."

He pointed at the long table in the front where there was various kinds of finger foods. "Bar food is used to soak up the alcohol in your system so you don't get so drunk that you're unable to hit on somebody. Or, if you're happily married, it's there to munch on while you watch your single friends hit on people. Either way, it's good. If you hit up a bar during happy hour then you can find this stuff for real cheap. You know when it's even cheaper? Right before closing because the bar is trying to get rid of the food."

Marshall knew a lot about bars.

"Okay, so bar food is mostly stuff you eat with your hands. Nachos, french fries, pretzels, beer nuts, onion rings, mozzarella sticks. If you're real lucky there will be some sliders on the menu," Marshall said, pointing to the burgers on the table. "And, last but certainly not least, buffalo wings. For those of you who aren't familiar with them, they aren't made of buffalo. They're chicken. And they come in different levels of heat. I prefer the more mild stuff but if I'm feeling particularly daring and there's enough blue cheese dressing around then I can crank it up to hot."

"So you've got a little bit of everything up here to dig into. There's the usual array of drinks in the back of the room," Marshall said. "There's also non-alcoholic beer and margaritas back there too. I tend to stay away from those but you guys go right ahead."

"But this is a high school. Isn't four years sort of . . . standard?"

"At any normal school?" Mac nodded. "But you have to have figured out by now, this place really isn't normal."

"Yeah, I've been noticing that."

"Mmm." Mac smirked. "Watch out for the washer thing this week," she advised. "I ended up mostly naked in a common room the last time this happened."

"It's happened before?"

"A whiiiile ago," she said with nod of confirmation. "But it's one of those experiences that just sticks in your mind."

"Yeah, I can see that. But, uh, why didn't you just, like, febreeze the hell out of your clothes?"

"Doesn't help you when they start nabbing them right off your back," Mac pointed out.

". . . They can do that?" Priestly shook his head. "Seriously, how badly are you guys treating your washing machines?"

"It's not like I go around kicking them for the hell of it or anything," Mac said raising her hands.

"You ever said 'thank you' when you get your clothes out of the dryer?"

"Have you?" Mac shot back. If he had, she'd be a little surprised.

"No, but I didn't know they were sentient. Now that I do, I plan to be very nice to them."

"I don't know it'll really help a whole lot at this point," Mac said. "But good luck trying."

"Yeah, but can't you kind of see their point? If you had to do the same job every single day and never got any attention for it, wouldn't you get pissed off?"

"I just think they should give us a bit more warning than 'hey, we're gonna start taking your clothes now'," Mac said. "I mean, there's a lot of people here who had no idea there was anything wrong there."

"You did. You could've warned people."

"It wasn't something I considered in time. Next time I'll devise a PSA earlier," Mac told him with a little smirk.

"Or put signs up in the laundry room that say 'be nice and say thank you if you value your clothing'."

"Could even add in some illustrative diagrams," she added with a grin. "Just in case."

"See, now that sounds like a plan."

"Can you draw?" Well, she could produce posters, but that artistic bit, was the part where she was not so proficient. She could but ask.

"Uh." Priestly shook his head. "Not really, no. But maybe Claudia could. She's an artist."

"I'll look out for her," Mac said with a nod. She smiled, "Need someone to draw me contented washers and dryers."

"She'd probably love that." And make them into earrings.
