BWI Airport, Portalocity Port, Saturday Morning

Spirit's ride to the island had been settled and Adora was trying very hard not to be nervous while she waited for the Fandom transport to arrive. Looking out the airport window, Adora realized she'd never seen so many fleets of vehicles in all her life that weren't involved in some sort of insurrection, and found herself desperately hoping her mother was right about this Earth place being safe from the Horde.

Just the thought of her family calmed Adora and she instinctively reached to touch the Sword of Protection where it was hidden by her hair and clothing, feeling that no matter where she was, she always had a way to contact the people she loved.

Now if only she knew for sure that this room marked "Fandom High" was really where she needed to be. Adora paced the large space as she waited, thinking she couldn't possibly be the only new student journeying to campus in this manner.

Sookie hadn't ever been on a plane before, and while it had certainly been an experience to remember, she was glad to be off it and away from such a confined space.

She'd kept her mental shields up the majority of the flight, out of necessity -- people tended to be kind of anxious in the air, she found -- and they were still up now. She looked around, keeping her mind to herself, as surveyed all the other people around her.

"...I guess these are my classmates," she said under her breath, taking in the...array of characters.

Priestly waved cheerfully.

He was nothing if not social.

Sookie smiled a little, taking in the boy's hair and clothes, and waved back. She resisted the initial urge to reach out with her mind, at least for the moment. "Hi," she called.

"Hey," Priestly called back, then wandered over. "I'm Priestly."

"Sookie," she said with a smile, waving again a little awkwardly. "Nice to meet you. Are you heading to this Fandom place, too?"

"Hi!" Claudia said, waving cheerfully. She rummaged through her bag and emerged with a bag of M&M's. "Want a snack?"

Sookie liked this girl already, and smiled. "Sure. Um, hang on, I'll trade -- my gran made cookies for the flight, but I didn't finish 'em all." She poked through her own purse for a moment, producing a small bag of cookies. "You like oatmeal?"

"As long as it's with raisins and sugar," Claudia said cheerfully. "Not much for health food."

"And more butter than you can shake a stick at," Sookie said, giggling her agreement. "I'm Sookie, by the way." She lowered her shields, thinking this girl -- whose name was apparently Claudia -- seemed sweet enough, and was hit by a wave of typical teenage thought, generally centered around her clothes and the outfits of those around her.

Which, Sookie had to admit, were fairly interesting.

"Me too," Sookie agreed wearily. "It's been an awful long day. I've never been this far from home before." Nor did she usually have to expend so much effort to keep thoughts out of her head, but that was secondary.

"Bon Temps, Louisiana," she said, gesturing vaguely. Like that would help. "Yours?"

Emmett naturally paid attention more to blondes than anybody else so he was obviously eying Sookie (and Adora) more than other girls. They reminded him of Rose.

He wasn't leering (god, he wasn't Edward) but he was watching her with a fond smile on his face.

It took her a few minutes, but Sookie noticed the feeling of being watched, and located the...rather huge guy doing the watching.

She waved, smiling as friendly as she knew how.

Usually when people caught Emmett staring at them they'd give him a scared look and walk away. Needless to say the wave and smile was very welcome. Emmett gave her a wave back before walking towards the girl.

"Hi," he said, giving her a nod. "Sorry about that. You look like someone I know."

"Oh, really?" Sookie asked curiously, smiling up at him just a little nervously. "I don't know that I've ever reminded anyone of anyone but me."

Dinah waved to one of the other new girls, and gave her a wan smile. "Hey. You kinda look like I feel." Why couldn't they just be transported to their dorm rooms by some imaginary teleportation beam? It would save all the nervous-making parts about getting to a new school. "I'm Dinah."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Sookie," she volunteered, waving lightly and keeping her shields up. "You nervous, too?"

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Dinah nodded hard and said, "My second new school in just over a year. I'm just glad there's other new people coming in at the same time. At least I won't be the only one people are staring at." She blew out a breath, then blinked at Sookie. "Suck..eee?"

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"...close enough," she decided. "Suhh-keee. No, it's not short for anything. Just Sookie."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] cataclysmicluck.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Zayne walked up to the girl and gave a friendly smile. "Hi. Sorry, but do you have any idea how long it's supposed to be until the shuttle gets here? I don't have a chronometer set up to local time, so I really don't know when anything's happening."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Your guess is as good as mine," she admitted ruefully. "Chronometer? Is that a fancy watch or something?"

See, she was smart. She knew 'chrono' meant time. So there.

"Sorry, I'm not from around here, so I may sound like I'm making up words, but I swear I'm not. It's a clock," Zayne said, luckily stumbling across a term that was common in both cultures. "A thing for keeping track of time?"

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
"I know what a clock is," she assured him. "Where're you from?"
