BWI Airport, Portalocity Port, Saturday Morning

Spirit's ride to the island had been settled and Adora was trying very hard not to be nervous while she waited for the Fandom transport to arrive. Looking out the airport window, Adora realized she'd never seen so many fleets of vehicles in all her life that weren't involved in some sort of insurrection, and found herself desperately hoping her mother was right about this Earth place being safe from the Horde.

Just the thought of her family calmed Adora and she instinctively reached to touch the Sword of Protection where it was hidden by her hair and clothing, feeling that no matter where she was, she always had a way to contact the people she loved.

Now if only she knew for sure that this room marked "Fandom High" was really where she needed to be. Adora paced the large space as she waited, thinking she couldn't possibly be the only new student journeying to campus in this manner.

Dinah nodded hard and said, "My second new school in just over a year. I'm just glad there's other new people coming in at the same time. At least I won't be the only one people are staring at." She blew out a breath, then blinked at Sookie. "Suck..eee?"

"...close enough," she decided. "Suhh-keee. No, it's not short for anything. Just Sookie."

"Suhh-keeeee," Dinah said, putting the emphasis on the first syllable and getting it much closer to right. "What part of the south are you from? And do you know what kind of classes they have at this school? The brochure I've got is all about the grounds and the island, nothing about the courses."

"I'm from Louisiana," she said, answering the questions in order. "Little town in the north part of the state called Bon Temps. As for the classes, I'm really not sure. The brochure didn't say much but I'd guess like normal things like history and English and math, right?"

"Bon Temps. That's pretty." Dinah smiled. "And I hope so? I'm just worried it'll be really advanced or something, and I had a hard enough time catching up in New Gotham."

"Where's that?" Sookie wondered at the unfamiliar name. "And I'm sure it's not too advanced. 'Least, I hope not."

"New Jersey?" Dinah said, her voice going up in a question. Then she wondered if she'd become such a New Gothamite that she assumed everyone had heard of her city, but wow, you'd think... well. Who knew. "It's pretty big. Port town and all. And yeah. Why worry about classes yet. At least everyone here seems pretty cool."

"Oh, that'd explain it," Sookie giggled. "I've never been above the Mason-Dixon Line. And geography's never been that much of a strong point." Though now she realized she probably sounded like some poor uneducated hick, and added, "But yeah, everyone here seems real cool. And I'm sure the classes are fun. I mean, what's the point in going all the way to a new school if not for the good curriculum?"

"Getting away from the old one," Dinah said before she thought, then facepalmed a little. "But yeah, definitely. College prep work, and all that." Although she wasn't sure she wanted to go-- but Barbara would probably insist on it. "And I've never been south of Missouri, so we're even. I guess Maryland's kind of south, but kind of not."

"It's the south-most part of the North," Sookie offered with a wane smile. "Maryland was a Union state. S'how we always divvied it up in school."

"Ha! I almost remember that. History was never my strong point," Dinah admitted, feeling a little guilty. She'd thought it was the other way around, but was totally willing to believe Sookie had it right. "So at least maybe we won't get too much snow. I won't miss that about New Gotham. Brrrr."

"Aww, I kinda hope we do. I've never seen it," she admitted. "It always looks so pretty in pictures."

Dinah gave her a smile and said, "You enjoy it, I'll stay inside and wave to you from a nice warm fireplace-lit room while I drink hot chocolate if it happens." It was a lot more likely that she'd be out playing in it after only ten minutes. But Dinah believed she'd stay inside, that's what mattered.
