Library [09/11]

When Sam arrived at the library, it was still fairly early, and he'd only managed to get a little caffeine into his blood stream. He started checking in the returned books first, and was surprised to find a children's book in among the rest. He set it aside, intending to flip through it before putting it back where it belonged, and he'd barely had time to yawn and move onto the next book when he heard mewing, and glanced over to find one--no, two gray kittens, a red kitten, and a blue kitten perched on the desk looking at him.

That was when he finally remembered there was supposedly something funky going on with the books. Oops.

Sam did his best to keep the kittens away from the rest of his coffee, and tried to keep them occupied with some string he found in the desk.

"Hi!" Rikku chirped, storming into the library.

It wasn't a very good sort of chirping.

"Hey, I figured out why you dumped Dawn."

"Uh, hi," Sam replied, staring at her a little. He might have been socially clueless sometimes, but even he could tell that this conversation was not going to be fun. "If you've talked to Dawn then yeah, I assume you know."

"I meant more the whole, you sucking face with some guy and it's been all over radio," she said, folding her arms.

"That's not why I broke up with Dawn," Sam said, wanting to sound as sincere as he could. "Peter and I is a whole separate thing."

Rikku narrowed her eyes. "It's been, like, a week," she said. "So if it's totally unrelated, and you weren't cheating on her, then you just got over the whole thing in like two days. I don't know which is worse."

Second Period [09/11]

A curious Sam was almost never a good thing, especially when there was weirdness going on. He randomly picked a shelf and grabbed the first book he could get his hands on - a history of astronauts - and sure enough, as soon as he checked it out, a kitten in a spacesuit joined the rest that were still lounging on the desk.

Sam wasn't sure whether to be concerned, or be taken in by the overwhelming cuteness.

Indy stepped out of the office with two kittens following him. One of them wore a deerstalker hat, had a pipe and was examining everything through a magnifying glass while the other kitty seemed to be carrying a small shovel and digging for bones.

"This happen a lot?" Indy asked jabbing a thumb to the kittens before spying the kitting in the spacesuit.

"Okay. I guess that's my answer."

"It's happening a lot at the moment," Sam said, reaching over to pet the new additions. "But I've never seen it happen before."

After getting petted the detective kitty began to inspect Sam's shoes while the architect kitty began searching for fossils near the main desk.

"I'm just going to have to be careful what I start checking out of the library," Indy said shaking his head as he watched the kittens in action.

Sam held himself still so the detective kitty could do his inspection, and snickered. "Yeah, I'm staying away from the books now until this blows over. There's some scary possibilities."

Third Period [09/11]

In retrospect, the astronaut book might not have been such a good idea, as Sam watched the kitten move from place to place, sticking little flags everywhere it went.

Lunch [09/11]

Sam wasn't an expert on what to feed cats, but a quick trip to the cafeteria got him some milk, and he watched to make sure that was all right. Not because the kittens were insanely cute or anything.

Dean showed up as usual with lunch for both of them. He glanced at the kittens. "So my chain smoking cat wasn't a fluke, huh?"

"Nope. The books are being weird," Sam said. "But not violently so, so I'm not complaining."

"Don't do whatever is causing it to any gangster or slasher books," Dean advised. "We don't need homicidal kittens."

Sam snickered. "Kittens in little gang outfits might be cute. They just can't have cigarettes like your cat did."

Fourth Period [09/11]

Sam tried not to be nervous as fourth period approached, but he couldn't help it. It was the good kind of nervous though, the excited kind, and Sam was letting the kittens distract him from thinking about Peter's potential visit, as well as everything else that might have happened during the day.

Peter came in with coffee and donuts, as per usual. He was, perhaps, smiling a bit more than usual though. "Hey."

"Hey," Sam said. He couldn't help but smile as well. "Look out for the kittens."

Peter looked around. "What the heck happened?"

He hadn't been listening to radio a lot this week.

"I'm not really sure," Sam said. "They were books, and now they're kittens. They're cute though, and they've been pretty harmless so far, so I'm not worried yet."

Fifth Period [09/11]

The kittens were in a sleepy pile on the desk, and Sam hoped they'd be safe there until they hopefully turned back into books.
