Library [09/11]

When Sam arrived at the library, it was still fairly early, and he'd only managed to get a little caffeine into his blood stream. He started checking in the returned books first, and was surprised to find a children's book in among the rest. He set it aside, intending to flip through it before putting it back where it belonged, and he'd barely had time to yawn and move onto the next book when he heard mewing, and glanced over to find one--no, two gray kittens, a red kitten, and a blue kitten perched on the desk looking at him.

That was when he finally remembered there was supposedly something funky going on with the books. Oops.

"I did not cheat on Dawn," Sam said emphatically. "And I haven't randomly gotten over her either. I care about both of them."

"Yeah, I can tell," she snapped. "I mean, you seem really broken up, what with all of the face-sucking going on. Unconnected. Got it. She thought you loved her. I'm glad she doesn't know what you really are."

Sam was tempted to ask what she thought he was, but he wasn't sure if he wanted to hear it, even if he might have deserved it. "I didn't plan this. It just happened," he said. "I still love Dawn, that's why I want her to be safe."

"Right. Accident. You tripped and landed on some guy. And him, you're not worried about him being safe. Amazing how that works." She rolled her eyes. "So this is what guys 'love' means. Someone leaves, life's short, better move on to the next warm body. Little clue for you: it's not about thinking with the little head."

She turned on her heel and stomped towards the doors. "You're pathetic."
