Library [09/11]

When Sam arrived at the library, it was still fairly early, and he'd only managed to get a little caffeine into his blood stream. He started checking in the returned books first, and was surprised to find a children's book in among the rest. He set it aside, intending to flip through it before putting it back where it belonged, and he'd barely had time to yawn and move onto the next book when he heard mewing, and glanced over to find one--no, two gray kittens, a red kitten, and a blue kitten perched on the desk looking at him.

That was when he finally remembered there was supposedly something funky going on with the books. Oops.

Sam grinned as he watched the astronaut kitten go up and sniff at Peter's hand before licking him.

"I know it's not right, but I'm hoping that if all the books turn into cats, it'll happen when I'm not here," he said.

Peter gave the kitten a skritch. "It would make for a lot of litterbox cleaning."

"And a lot of hairballs," Sam said, laughing.

Peter smiled at Sam's laugh, then leaned in to give him a kiss hello. "So hi."

Sam wasn't sure when getting to kiss Peter would start to feel like reality, but he didn't have any complaints about how it felt now. "Hi to you too."

Yeah, reality hadn't set in for Peter yet either. That wasn't going to stop him from kissing Sam though. "So how's your day going other than kittens?"

"All right, except for not being able to check books out. That's when they seem to turn into kittens," Sam explained.

"So they're fine on the sheves?" Peter asked, looking.

"Yes, thankfully. It's only when you check them out that you get a kitten. Which, you know, isn't so bad. But it's kind of annoying when you wanted a book."

"But these are so much more adorable," Peter said, holding one up at eye level and making cute eyes at Sam over its tiny head.

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize that kitten had a sign on it that said 'Please use me to kill Sam.'"

Peter looked confused. "Huh?"

"Puppy eyes and a kitten? You just crossed the cute streams at me. I'm not that strong," Sam said.

"Ohhhh." Out came the puppy eyes again. "Sorry?"

"Stop that," Sam said, laughing and putting his hand up to try to block Peter's eyes from his line of sight.

Peter laughed, then moved to try to get eye contact again.

"You're cruel. Save that look for Nathan when you're trying to convince him to let me set foot in his apartment again."

"Well okay," Peter said. "But I want something in return for it."

"Oh yeah?" Sam said. "Like what?"

"Use your imagination," Peter suggested.

Sam pretended to think for a moment, before leaning over to give Peter a kiss.

Peter smiled and kissed Sam back. "Good call."

"I have sense sometimes," Sam replied.

"It makes a nice change of place," Peter teased.

"Was that a crack about my lack of sense?" Sam asked.
