Library [08/25]

Sam hadn't intended to come to the library today, since it was the week off from classes. But he'd heard through the grapevine - aka Zoe - that the school had gotten around to hiring a new librarian. So, he was taking it upon himself to make sure everything was as clean and organized as possible, just in case the new guy was a stickler for neatness and order.

The trip after the Colt had been successful, but John had been left with the feeling of unfinished business in regards to Sam. He hated that they seemed to have backslid to the point where they can't even have a conversation over the weather without it turning into an argument and while he wasn't sure if he could fix it, he couldn't just leave things as they were.

So figuring Sammy would be where he was every Monday, John headed into the library that morning with two cups of coffee.

Sam looked up from the pile of junk he was sorting through when he heard the door open, and tried not to look uncomfortable when he saw his dad. "Hey. What are you doing here?" he asked lightly. "This is your vacation week."

"I could say the same to you," John replied. He held out one cup to Sam. "Coffee?"

"Uh, sure, thanks," Sam said, taking the coffee gratefully. "I'm just trying to clean things up before the new librarian gets here."

"Hopefully it'll be someone that won't make Zoe come home ranting," John said with a wry grin.

"That would be nice. Someone she doesn't have to punch either," Sam said.

"Yes. Though, y'know, nothing like a woman who can wipe the floor with people," John said with a fond expression.

Sam couldn't help but laugh. "Strong women are definitely a good thing," he agreed.

John took a sip of his coffee and took a breath. "About last week...."

Peter didn't doubt that Sam would be in the library. So around the usual time he showed up with donuts and coffee.

"Hey."

"Hey," Sam said, smiling. "Enjoying your break so far?"

"So far so good," Peter said. He handed over the coffee. "You?"

"So far, yeah," he said, always happy for coffee. "You're lucky, I almost wasn't going to be here today."

"Who are you and what have you done with the real Sam?" Peter replied.

"Hey, I don't always come in when there are no classes," Sam said, ignoring the fact that he usually did.

"Just mostly."

"No one would know where to find me if I wasn't here," Sam pointed out.

Dean came in at lunch with a bag of sandwiches and cookies for dessert. "Yeah, figured you'd be here even if it's a no school week," he greeted his brother with a grin. There was an air of smug happiness around him as he sat down in his usual chair.

"I'm just cleaning some stuff up," Sam said. He watched Dean for a moment, and then remembered what he'd heard on the radio. "You look happy," he said.

"I had a very good night," Dena said, leaning back in his chair.

"So I heard," Sam said, looking uncomfortable.

"Those squirrels are just a bunch of voyeurs," Dean said, with no discernible irritation. In fact if anything his grin just got larger.

"They just have a job to do," Sam said, looking back at his work.

Dean rolled his eyes. "So you going to be pissy at me this week because I got some?"

"It depends on how many details you make me listen to."
