Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Behold! More tables and chairs, away from all the informational stuff! Enjoy the food!

[OCD is up! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here and there is more room for mingling here.]

Helen was "mingling" - if by mingling you mean standing around and trying not to glare too much.

But if you count that, then yes, she was doing as she'd been instructed.

At least there was good food.

Amber happened to wander close to the girl who, by a mere glance in her direction, seemed to be a new student. Not that Amber would know completely given the fact that she herself still didn't know that many people, but she could at least say 'hey'.

"Hi, I'm Amber Atkins. Are you a new student?"

Helen mentally rolled her eyes. "I am," she said. "And you?"

"Nah, I've been around for a while. What's your name?" Because hello? Manners here. Amber might be from Mount Rose, Minnesota but she was raised right.

Pretty much.

"I am Helen Haras-Uquara," she replied formally. "And I am not of this world."

"Nice to meet you, Helen," Amber replied, smiling. "I know others not from this world here. 'Course you do look human..." Um.

"Of course I look human," she said with some annoyance. "I am human. Most beings in the wider times are. And even demons often look human."

"And... it is nice to meet you," she said grudgingly.

Ah, god, Amber hoped this chick was not another Becky Leeman.

She shrugged a shoulder. "Another world usually means alien to me; sorry if I offended you," she said, going for casual pleasantries here. "Why did you come to Fandom?"

"I was forced to come," Helen said grumpily. "The priests said that Uquar had spoken and that I must go and experience more of the wider times. If I had refused I would have been stoned and exiled again. And then forced to go."

"You know," Ino said lightly. "Glaring, even just a little, doesn't work so well if you're hoping it'll make people avoid you."

[identity profile] elephantgadget.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh?" Helen said coolly. "It seems to have worked well enough till now. And besides, I am not glaring"

Much.

Ino looked undeterred. "Well, then, that's even more useless isn't it? Because you certainly aren't smiling."

A beat.

"I'm Ino, by the way."

"And your point would be?"

Helen stared at her blandly.

"And I am Helen Haras-Uquara."
intraspective: (better than you)

[personal profile] intraspective 2008-07-05 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"That leads me to think that, really, you'd rather be glaring more and aren't allowed to for some reason or..." Ino shrugged. "Which, you know, never works all that well because then it just leads to totally half-assed expressions."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] elephantgadget.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Helen rolled her eyes. "No one asked you to come over and comment on my expressions or lack thereof."
intraspective: (nyah!)

"I'm useful that way," she said impudently. "You are new, therefore I talk to you. Exciting, isn't it?"

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] elephantgadget.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not particularly," Helen said dryly. "And I have yet to see if you are worth the time to get to know you."

"It's really not as bad as all that," Dean told her.

Helen turned her head, ready to make a sharp remark, then took a second glance at the person who had spoken to her. A smile spread slowly across her face. "Perhaps not."

"I'm Dean Winchester," Dean said introducing himself with a grin.

"I am Helen Haras-Uquara and I am most pleased to meet you," Helen replied, returning his smile.

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Likewise," Dean said. "And like I said, really, Fandom's a pretty cool place once you get used to it."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] elephantgadget.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Helen wrinkled her nose. "I suppose it might be," she said. "But it is hard to be thrown out of the place you wish to be and sent elsewhere, no matter how 'cool'."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Dean said sympathetically. "I wasn't crazy about being sent here at first either."

"Are you in exile as well?" she asked curiously.
