Ino all but vibrated with glee as she bounced looking for people to talk to.

Giselle was far too excited as she almost danced around, looking for new people to talk to. Or old people! People of all ages! Ooh, maybe there'd be a dwarf.

Alright. Free food. No way he could object to that. Ichigo filled up a plate with... With a lot of things and he found a table to lean against. He watched the people around him, sometimes sparing a look at the school. He really was going to attend classes inside a castle?

"New person!" Ino greeted cheerfully. "Hi!"

New person? He hadn't been called that before either.

"Hi," he said, quickly swallowing so he wouldn't be talking with his mouth full. "It's Ichigo, by the way. Because if you're going to call everyone here 'new person', no one is going to have an idea who you're talking to."

"Everyone I don't recognize is likely to be a new person today, so it works out alright," she informed him brightly. "But Ichigo it is. I'm Ino."

"Hi, Ino. It's nice to meet you," Ichigo replied, taking in the whole perky part. "So I take it you're not a new person then?" He had great deduction skills.

"Likewise. It'll be a year in September," she said. "So, totally not new."

The perky was... well, she was in a fantastic mood today. Other people could totally attest to her temper.

"No, I guess not." He agreed, glancing at the castle once more. "You like it here then?"

Naomi was definitely happy to mingle.

She grinned. "That depends entirely on your ability to cope with the unexpected. But yeah, I totally do. The people who can't handle it don't tend to last long really."

Somehow Ichigo had a feeling that he handled the unexpected quite well. Most things anyway, but he didn't quite think Ino meant anything like what he had in mind.

"I'll find out if I can then," he said easily. "What kind of thing do you mean?"

Meg was there and looked cheerful despite the fact that she was kind of bummed that this could be her last chance to scare new kids.

"Well, currently? We're in Antarctica," Ino told him. "We're normally off the coast of Virginia. The island developed a taste for travel this summer."

Chuck had a drink in his hand and was trying his best to look anti-social to the people that didn't meet his standards and to look approachable to the people who did (i.e. girls).

Basically it was the difference between a bitchface and a knowing smirk.

Lois was there and keeping her eye out for shirtless guys to stare at. She loved this school, she really did.

"That does explain the change of scenery," Ichigo said very slowly until he realised that he was almost accepting the explanation and what the hell?

"Wait, that's not possible. I flew to Virginia and then took a bus here. Is this some kind of joke?" He wasn't talking as slow or as quietly anymore.

"The icebergs aren't a joke," she said, grinning. "Or the penguins, or the temperature off the island. It's just... Fandom being Fandom. And you probably went through the mainland portal to get here."

"Oooh, mingling," Hannibal after wandering over and grabbing a drink. "Now all I need is a monocle and a pretentious name like...Harold. Vincenzo. Yeah, that one's better. Vincenzo the millionaire playboy Lego mogul who mingles and wines and dines. I'm awesome."

Ender sat quietly, a plate of food in his lap and his eyes trained on the picnic. It was a little chaotic, and he found himself missing, not for the first time, the quiet order of Battle School, or even his old room in Eros.

But where he sat, it was quiet, and it gave him the opportunity to observe.

"Portal?" he repeated. "I didn't go through anything! I think I would have noticed," he argued stubbornly.

There was definitely something off, though, even if he had no idea what it was. Was Mr. Hat-and-Clogs behind this? He superstitiously glanced around the area as if he expected Urahara to pop up from behind a bush to beat him over the head.

She waved that off. "The portal from the mainland to the island's a pretty gentle one. In a bus you might not've."

"I had to walk the last bit." His attention settled on Ino and she didn't look like she was joking. What was up with that.

He leaned forward, lowering his tone once more so only she would be able to hear him. "Do you know Kisuke Urahara?" he asked. "A funny guy with a green striped cloak and hat. He's always has a cane with him and he wears wooden sandals."
