Behold! More tables and chairs, away from all the informational stuff! Enjoy the food!

[OCD is up! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here and there is more room for mingling here.]

"Likewise," Dean said. "And like I said, really, Fandom's a pretty cool place once you get used to it."

Helen wrinkled her nose. "I suppose it might be," she said. "But it is hard to be thrown out of the place you wish to be and sent elsewhere, no matter how 'cool'."

"Yeah," Dean said sympathetically. "I wasn't crazy about being sent here at first either."

"Are you in exile as well?" she asked curiously.

"Right before my brother and I got sent here, I got myself stuck in a portal for three years," Dean explained. "So Dad sent us here to keep us out of trouble. So it kinda felt like exile back then in a way since it was my fault."

Helen nodded seriously. "I am most sorry for that. And yet, you have come to like it here?" she asked cautiously.

"Oh yeah," Dean said with a huge grin. "Everything's so weird here that any weirdness people bring with them is just no big deal. So Sammy and I were able to really be ourselves and didn't have to hide the family business or anything."

Helen wondered how he would feel about her own... weirdness.

"The family business?" she said curiously.

"Hunting ghosts and demons and other things that go bump in the night," Dean explained.

Helen's head went down, her face disappearing partially behind her hair. She remembered all too well how Joris had behaved when he found out aboout her arm, how he said it was like that of a demon - more spirit than body. Konstam hadn't been bothered by it and he had been a demon hunter longer, but still she found herself almost trying to hide her right arm.

"You do not wear white," she said, trying to act as if she was not feeling suddenly very unsure. "And where is the sign of Shem?"

"The who of the what now?" Dean asked.

"The sign of Shen," Helen repeated and sort of sketched it in the air. "Joris and Konstam said that all the demon hunters must wear them. It gives you power over demons."

"Really?" Dean asked sounding interested. "That could be really cool. We just make do with salt, holy water, devil's traps and Latin."

Helen blinked at him. "Joris and Konstam have a great deal of equipment. Demon wire and trisps and nallettes and conceptors. They have an entire book filled with descriptions of anti-demon devices. I..." She peered up at him through her hair. "I am sort of in that book."

She waited nervously to see how he would react to that.

"Yeah?" Dean grinned. "Cool. So, what, you've got some natural demon repelling ability or something?"

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] elephantgadget.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"I..." She took a deep breath, deciding it would be easier to demonstrate than try to explain. She focused on her right arm until it turned into an arm-shaped bar of light. If one looked carefully, you could see an incredibly faint outline of a much smaller arm, all drawn up and withered.

"It's called a Living Blade. It is deadly to demons of any strength on any plane."

Hopefully he wouldn't try to hunt her now.

Dean stared for a moment, then broke out in the biggest grin yet. "Awesome! I gotta tell ya, there's been time where we've coulda totally used something like that."

Her heart had practically stopped in that moment when he had just stared and she still watched him a bit anxiously. "Really? You don't think it's a... a deformity?"

"Sweetheart, I'd give a lot to have a 'deformity' that gave me a natural weapon against demons," Dean said. "Beyond my natural charm and good looks."

[identity profile] elephantgadget.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, you do have a great deal of that," Helen said with a relieved smile. "I can actually turn it into anything I want."

"Really? That's really cool." He raised an eyebrow. "Got any favorites?"

She laughed and her arm began to turn gray from the tips of the fingers and spreading up to her shoulder. And then there was an elephant trunk tapping on his shoulder and moving to attempt to wind around the back of his neck.

Dean chuckled and let her pull him a little closer. "Okay that wasn't what I was expecting."

[identity profile] elephantgadget.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"And just what were you expecting, Dean Winchester?" she teased. "I would not like to disappoint someone with such - how did you phrase it? Ah yes, natural charm and good looks."

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Believe me, you're far from disappointing," Dean told her.
