Luau: The Main Campfire: Friday Evening

The irony of having a Hawaiian luau while in Greece probably hadn't escaped anyone.  But given that the majority of the students probably couldn't pinpoint Hawaii on the map, it didn't seem like that was enough of a reason to cancel what had become a summer tradition.

So in the early evening, the main campfire was transformed into a party place with coconuts, grass skirts, and leis for everyone.  A pig was slowly roasting over the fire, and a huge moddable buffet spread out to the flagpole.

A dance floor was set up, and Hawaiian music was playing, but there was also plenty of grass spread with blankets for the less-rhythm-inclined.

[OOC:  YAAAAAY LUAU!  Students, teachers, and townies all welcome!]

Amber had a few marshmallows while watching the pig roast. It was just eye-catching. Really.

"Sorry I wasn't around for the flying," he said as he settled not too far from her.

"I was out of it most of yesterday."

He looked better than he had, something firm and solid that had been missing before. That said, he spoke quietly and seemed somewhat reserved.

Amber gave him a warm smile. "Don't be sorry; we didn't determine a specific time."

She was in a good, comfortable mood and was glad to see him. "Are you okay this evenin'? You look good."

He shrugged, as if to say that she was welcome to say so but he didn't quite believe it. He was better. Good was a bit beyond him in quite a few ways.

"Thank you. I'm... refreshed," he said, somewhat lamely. He didn't know how else to put it. "Better. And you?"

Well, Amber had always thought he was nice looking, attractive; she wouldn't say so, but it was easy to think.

"Refreshed is a great word," she chuckled. "And I feel great, thanks. Enjoyin' the fire and the leis."

He smiled, genuinely, and it had the feel of something rare. Especially of late.

"This is definitely my first... what is it called? Suffice to say, I'm pretty sure we don't have these things where I come from."

"A luau," she supplied and ran her fingers through her grass skirt that fit surprisingly well over her shorts. "They are usually held in Hawaii though a lot of people have parties with this sort of theme. What do you think of the roastin' pig?"

"It should be delicious," he said as he looked over the roasting porker. "It doesn't seem to be burning much, as they've got it just the right distance from the fire, and the seasoning smells lovely."

He quirked his lips.

"Hawaii? Is that a hawaii?" and he pointed to the grass skirt.

"I hope it will be really good," she said glancing at it before she gave him her attention again.

"This," she fingered her skirt again, "is a grass skirt, silly," Amber giggled and reached over to poke his leg. "Hawaii is an island though actually counted as part of the United States."

"I know what it's made of," he pointed out with a bit of mock indignation. "I just didn't know what it might be called."

He leaned back a little before continuing.

"And there's a special kind of party that someone in Hawaii has that's different from other parties?"

Amber spread her arms, hands up. "This is it," she said. "We're not in Hawaii of course, and ohhh the women do the hula, and usually there is some sort of dance the men do with lit torches."

"Sounds a little like the rituals they'd have down near Red Windmill. With the fire and the dances."

He looked out into the fire thoughtfully.

"I couldn't see much though, from Kiamo Ko. But it sounds interesting."

"I've never actually been to one myself," she replied following his gaze to the fire. "But I've watched enough TV to know and I might have practiced the hula in the comfort of my own room," Amber admitted with a wry grin.

G'Kar spotted Amber. And the pig. And oh did it smell good.

"Good evening, Amber," he spoke cheerily.

"Hey, G'Kar! How're you doin'?"

"I am well! I thought I'd come out and see what the party was all about." He grinned, "And possibly meet a few new people as well."

"There seem to be a lot here," Amber replied, checking out the crowds. "I love campfire parties. Not that I've been to many, and never a luau," she grinned.

"I am not familiar with a 'lu-ah' myself. But it seems to be a hit," he grinned back.

"Did you get a lei?" she asked, checking him out to see if he had one.

Re: The Campfire

[identity profile] gkar-lastkhari.livejournal.com 2008-05-17 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"I do not believe so since I do not know what one is."

Re: The Campfire

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-05-17 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Amber lifted the three that she had on around her neck and pulled off the white one. "This is a lei. Pretty flowers strung together. Do you mind if I put it on you?"

"I would be most honored by such a gift," he smiled.

Re: The Campfire

Amber stood and moving closer, she reached up to put it over his head. "Hawaiians kiss each cheek..." she grinned, waiting to see if he would let her.

He grinned. How sneaky of her. "If it is in keeping with tradition, I shall not object."

Amber could be very sneaky, yes. Leaning up, hands to his shoulders, she kissed each cheek softly, smiling wide when she settled back. "Perfectly greeted, G'Kar."
