Luau: The Main Campfire: Friday Evening

The irony of having a Hawaiian luau while in Greece probably hadn't escaped anyone.  But given that the majority of the students probably couldn't pinpoint Hawaii on the map, it didn't seem like that was enough of a reason to cancel what had become a summer tradition.

So in the early evening, the main campfire was transformed into a party place with coconuts, grass skirts, and leis for everyone.  A pig was slowly roasting over the fire, and a huge moddable buffet spread out to the flagpole.

A dance floor was set up, and Hawaiian music was playing, but there was also plenty of grass spread with blankets for the less-rhythm-inclined.

[OOC:  YAAAAAY LUAU!  Students, teachers, and townies all welcome!]

"I know what it's made of," he pointed out with a bit of mock indignation. "I just didn't know what it might be called."

He leaned back a little before continuing.

"And there's a special kind of party that someone in Hawaii has that's different from other parties?"

Amber spread her arms, hands up. "This is it," she said. "We're not in Hawaii of course, and ohhh the women do the hula, and usually there is some sort of dance the men do with lit torches."

"Sounds a little like the rituals they'd have down near Red Windmill. With the fire and the dances."

He looked out into the fire thoughtfully.

"I couldn't see much though, from Kiamo Ko. But it sounds interesting."

"I've never actually been to one myself," she replied following his gaze to the fire. "But I've watched enough TV to know and I might have practiced the hula in the comfort of my own room," Amber admitted with a wry grin.

"I should like to see that sometime," he said with a faint smirk.

"As I have a feeling you did."

"Maybe you would like to learn?" she teased with a lift of her brow, her lips curving upwards.

He rolled his eyes innocently.

"Ozma forfend I learn another dance."

One eyebrow arched up.

"I think I could," he said after a moment.

Amber laughed. "I would love to see it," she told him.

"It will no doubt provide ample opportunity for your amusement," he said dryly.

"I'm sorry. I am not makin' fun, I swear it. I just think it will be fun to teach you in my own little way."

"If I had a problem with it, I probably wouldn't have agreed," he pointed out with just a touch of a teasing tone to his voice.

Amber gave him a sweet smile. "I'm glad to see you here tonight. I was worried about you and how you were."

He would never quite get over the idea that people were concerned for him. It never stopped being odd.

"I'm glad to see you as well," he said. "I've been keeping myself away too much. I'd rather not turn into an old bat in a tower."

"No, I imagine you would get quite smelly," Amber joked. "I'm becomin' a bit more social myself and I think I might like it."

"Oh? Any particular reason or just something that seems to have happened fortuitously for the rest of us?"

He could be charming when he put in the effort for it, and Amber had been exceedingly sweet.

"Ah, you flatter me too much, Liir," she blushed lightly and looked back to the fire, her mood very good. "No particular reason. I think I've just grown tired of my own company."

"Flattery implies falsehood," and his smile said it was certainly no falsehood.

"How goes your play then?"

Re: The Campfire

Amber just grinned. She wasn't used to anyone being charming to her. Well, there was Brett but then he ended up with a bullet in his forehead. It was really nasty.

"Very well, thanks. But you know," she leaned towards him slightly, lowering her voice, "I've had a couple bad dreams and I think they've stemmed from the play."

"Bad dreams?" he asked, leaning over to get closer so he didn't have to speak up. "From the play?"

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
She shrugged a little. "I'm not sure but I'm guessin' only because the play is the only thing that has bothered me lately."

"Bothered you? You'd sounded... I don't know, pleased previously."

"Oh, yah, I'm pleased. But readin' certain scenes you know, subconsciously your brain puts these images behind your eyes and they seem to come out when I'm asleep."

"Is it really so terrifying?"

He couldn't think of something on a page that was so bad. It was happening to other people, after all.

"Rape and cuttin' limbs off is pretty terrifyin' to me," she said softly, almost whispering.

"Is that what happens to your character?"

...he'd have to talk to this director.
