Luau: The Main Campfire: Friday Evening

The irony of having a Hawaiian luau while in Greece probably hadn't escaped anyone. But given that the majority of the students probably couldn't pinpoint Hawaii on the map, it didn't seem like that was enough of a reason to cancel what had become a summer tradition.

So in the early evening, the main campfire was transformed into a party place with coconuts, grass skirts, and leis for everyone. A pig was slowly roasting over the fire, and a huge ~~moddable~~ buffet spread out to the flagpole.

A dance floor was set up, and Hawaiian music was playing, but there was also plenty of grass spread with blankets for the less-rhythm-inclined.

Amber was very conflicted still over the character she was playing. While she very much wanted to be part of the production, to star in the play, getting used to a character who is so wicked, was a hard thing to overcome. She was doing it and while she thought she was doing it fairly well, it was still difficult.

She didn't look at him. "I believe her life has made her that way." She shrugged. "I don't think someone can just suddenly become that way, I think she was born with a coldness deep inside of her. And I'm sure you don't want to talk about this -- we're supposed to be havin' fun."

"A curling scorpion of a woman, trembling and ready to strike at all times..."

He didn't know why that came out of him. Perhaps because he'd been thinking of her so much. Perhaps because it was somewhat accurate. Either way, he shrugged.

"I don't mind talking about it if you need someone to speak to, Amber."

His words caused her to look sharply at him. "Yes, just like that..." Liir caught Tamora almost perfectly and wasn't that strange? Amber must have conveyed much in her words to him. She was glad she could talk to him; he had this open, caring way about him and it mattered to her.

"Thank you, Liir. I'm just afraid of borin' you."

"Before I came here, I spent most of my time doing chores. And I wasn't bored.

"I don't think I actually can bore. So no worries."

He didn't address what he'd said. There wasn't any kind of way of saying 'no, Amber, actually I was describing my mother' that would sound good at all.

She smiled. "All the more reason to have fun while you're here, Liir."

"Anything is 'fun' if you enjoy it," he said with a faint smile.

Amber giggled. "True. Very true."

"And as I enjoy your company, the topic of discussion will no doubt be 'fun'."

"Hah, you might be speakin' too soon!" she laughed and reached over to gently poke his arm.

"I don't think I am," he told her primly before laughing just a bit himself.

"We can always hope, can't we?" she said, still grinning.

"I think so," he said with a nod.

He thought so.

"By the way, I loved my orange," Amber said.

He blushed just a little and ducked his head.

"Oh. I'm glad."

Amber noticed and couldn't help but tease him playfully. "You're so cute when you blush."

He looked up, just a little incredulous.

"Cute?"

He was never telling Ino about that. Never ever ever ever.

"What? You don't think you can be cute?"

"It's not a word that comes to me much, no," he said with a laugh.

"Well, I wouldn't think you would call yourself cute much, no," she said, amused.

Andrew would call him cute. But he wasn't talking about Andrew. He wouldn't touch that with a 30 ft pole.

"No, really no."

Looking at him, she wondered if that bothered him.

"I'm sorry. I guess I keep teasin', hmm? when I shouldn't."

Now he blinked.

"No, not at all. I don't mind being cute. I don't mind at all! I just don't tend to think like that."

He gave her a wry, crooked smile.

"I'm odd. Nothing to worry over."

"Oh."

She grinned back.

"I'm odd too."

He looked at her skeptically.

"Well, I can be odd," she stated with a firm nod, totally agreeing with herself.
