Andrew was determined not to be a wallflower today, so he headed right for the center of activity.

He then just stood there, smiling at random people and trying to figure out what to do with his hands to look cool.

And lo and behold, Jeff wandered by, wielding a sign that was truly... well, unwieldy, really. "Have you seen my dog?" he asked of Andrew, spinning around suddenly as he hit a rock, swinging the sign at the boy's head.

Andrew wasn't expecting to get smacked in the face, but standing there, hand pressed against his temple, he wasn't all that surprised. "Ouch," he said. This is why he avoids organized sports.

"Is there blood," he asked Jeff, removing the hand temporarily and cringing.

Continuing in a happy half-circle (well, happy, he was sort of flailing) Jeff finally managed to plant the sign upside down in the ground, swerving one more time to come face to face with Andrew.

In the process, he missed Andrew's question entirely. "Oh. Andrew. You've got red on you."

"You hit me in the face with your sign!" Andrew explained, loudly. He took a look at the blood on his hand and staggered. The sight of his own blood did bad things to Andrew.

"I'm going to faint," he stated.

"It's just a bit of blood," Jeff said, in his mildest possible tone, and quickly moved the sign over his shoulder. He was starting to wonder if that meant he had to turn it in at the weapons locker, now. "Sorry about that, I've just been having some sibling issues."

"You have a sibling?" Andrew asked, pressing his hand back against his temple. He closed his eyes and concentrated on taking deep breaths.

Rikku waved cheerfully at Andrew. "Heya! I didn't bathe in ranch dressing this time." She stopped short. "I didn't really last time, just, you know."

And if he didn't remember their bizarre previous conversation while attempting to hunt vampires and failing miserably, then that was going to sound even weirder than it already did.

Andrew totally remembered their vampire hunting escapades. He waved back at Rikku with his free hand, the other currently holding a slightly bloody napkin against his temple from where Jeff had bashed him in the face with a sign.

"Well, that's a shame. I love the smell of ranch dressing," he said, smiling.

"We should make a new perfume," she said, bouncing on her toes. "We'd make a fortune. Call it something ritzy and French and have the commercials all weird and mysterious. Uh. Did you know you're bleeding?"

Andrew pulled away the napkin so Rikku could see his injury. It was really just a small little nick, but head wounds tend to bleed a lot. "My face got in the way of Jeff's sign," he explained.

"He hit you?!" Rikku said, folding her arms. "That's not very nice of him! Want me to go cram the sign up his --"

The irony was totally lost on her, here.

Andrew laughed. "You don't need to hurt him. It was an accident," he said. "At least I think it was an accident. Jeff might have been testing me for alien blood. For a while there, he thought I was, um, other-worldly and intent of destroying humanity."

Romeo noticed the smile and cocked his head at the young man. "Have I made your acquaintance?" he asked.

"..." Andrew was momentarily at a loss for words. "N-no," he stammered. He was always a little surprised when the pretty decided to talk to him.

But he was being assertive today -- assertive and cool. "Andrew Wells." He stuck out his hand.

Romeo took the hand, speaking gently to try to make the boy at ease. "Romeo Montague. The way you smiled, I thought we might have met, but it is no matter. Are you also a new student?"

"Oh, I was just, you know, trying to look like I'm having a good time," Andrew explained. "But, no, I'm not new. I started here over the summer."

He smiled, genuinely this time. "So where are you from?"

"I come from Verona Beach, in California," Romeo said. "I thought I would miss the ocean, but I am told they have one here."

"I'm from California, too!" Andrew exclaimed. "Sunnydale. It's not on the ocean. Have you heard of it?"

Seregil smiled back at the nervous young man who smiled at him. "Are you new here too?"

Andrew stared at the new boy for a moment, and then started to blink furiously. "Yes," he said, and forced the smile back to his face.

Then he frowned. "I mean, no. No, I'm Andrew. Not new."

Smooth.

"I'm Seregil i Korit Solun Meringill Bokethera, but just Seregil is fine. Pleased to meet you, not new Andrew."

Andrew was mentally chastising himself for being so uncool, and he totally missed most of what Seregil just said, except the last part. "No, just Andrew," he blurted out with a grimace. "Nice to meet you, er..."

He shrugged. "I'm sorry, can we start over?"

"Hello, new student. My name is Andrew, it is very nice to meet you," he said with a grin, holding his hand.
