Festivus in July, Fandom High front lawn, Friday afternoon

Sometime during morning workshops, when no one was paying nearly enough attention except those concerned, the Fandom High schoolgrounds had filled with snow.

For the record, "those concerned" meant Rory Gilmore and several dozen snow cone distributors from the mainland. But who wants to ruin the illusion? Students who were curious might assume that it was simply a Festivus in July miracle, or some such.

In the middle of the lawn stood a bare, aluminum pole. Festivus tradition, you know.

[Yes, the schoolgrounds have snow. I'm weathermodding and saying it's cool enough today through this evening for it to stick, and it'll melt overnight. And yes, we're having Festivus in July. For those not in the know, here is a handy Wiki link! Please wait for OCD. Up, yay!]

"Airing of Grievances?" Was a food fight acceptable at a Festivus celebration? Well, at least the latkes and cookies were good.

"Hey!" Parker laughed, and flicked snow back at Isabel. "I think anyone who tries may find themselves getting a snowbank facial. Is that a *real* ritual, or did they just make it up?"

"I don't know. But if it's true it's the saddest holiday ritual I've ever seen," she said. "I only caught the change to Festivus at the last minute. I'd been counting on Christmas in July. I even got mistletoe."

"You can still use it. Greg won't care that it's not official." Parker grinned, and broke off a bite of cookie. "Although it's more non-denominational, so I suppose that's fair. And we have *snow*. This can not be considered less than awesome."

"You're right. He's never turned down a kiss." Isabel reached a grabbed another cookie. Lunch today was going to be healthy she could see. "And it's cooler. I'm grateful even for one day of relief."

"And pretty. Maybe we'll get Summer in January this year?" Parker cocked her head and asked, "How are plans for next weekend coming along?"

"The biggest thing is getting hold of a car big enough. Ideally I'm thinking a Suburan or a large van. Just so we can all travel together," she said. "And as much as I'm bitching about the heat right now, I'm sure by January I'll be looking back on it fondly.

"I'm going to need you to do your magical molecular manipulation on this outfit. River got 'festive'." Parker pointed to the wet places from the snowball. "And at least Virginia never gets *too* bad. Unless there's snow monsters involved."

"The candy's enough for now," Angela said, breaking off a chunk. "And it's been a nice week. Did you go to Veronica's thing last night?"

"Yes, I was there early in the evening. Caught up with a few people. The school is getting too big, damnit. No more new people!" She grimaced. "Like I can convince anyone of that."

"They'll be even squeakier and bouncier than Blair. Or MacBeth." Parker contemplated that with mild dread. "I vote we induct them via dunking in the duck pond."

"Heh. True. I'm only learning their names if they annoy me. So I can curse them effectively." Parker grinned widely. "Seeeeniors. Ruling the schooooool. There should be extra special benefits to this. Angel said that last year, but they never thought of anything in time."

Parker looked down, and chortled. "No! Not until you stop being so freakin' short! With good hair!"

Zero gasped playfully. "This is perfectly good hair. And I don't have to spend an hour on it!"

"Okay, now I *really* am aggrieved. Why can't I have hair that's ready in less than an hour?" Parker asked plaintively. "Also, I am aggrieved that you have not yet shown me photos of your niece and nephew. How can I spoil what I've never seen?"

"You could," Zero pointed out, "you just won't. But the second grievance, I can fix. Here." Zero whipped out her phone and proudly displayed the wallpaper. "BB's the one in the little black hat, and Bru's the one in the other little black hat. The one with the bow."

"They're tiny! I mean, Rory's brother is small, but they're *really* tiny?" Parker tilted her head and grinned. "I love the bow. Adds that Hopeless-Savage je nais sais quoi to it. I am much less grievy, now."

"I think it's 'cause there were two of 'em in there. BB weighed five pounds, eleven ounces, and Bru weighed six pounds, four ounces. But they're growing like weeds, Arsenal says. She also says I have to get home and see them soon or else."
