Wilderness Survival - Week 6 | Thursday Morning, A Clearing in the Woods

Callisto stood at the front of the class, giving no sign that she might have been up all night doing things in the wood. "Good morning class," she said. "Great news, today you get to keep your shoes. Well, some of you at least."

After giving a brief, yet highly informative, lecture on snares and pit traps, Callisto, pointed to a group of maps and several piles of rope.

"One of the more important parts of trapping is the placement, so those of you with shoes, take a map and go scout out the area to try and find suitable areas to lay snares. While they're doing that the rest of you will work on snare making."

Buffy is shocked - shocked! - by that kind of evil littering. What if some poor teal deer came and ate it? She leans down and picks up the wrapper.

Before Buffy had a chance to ponder the meaning of this, the ground under her feet started shifting...

Joxer is doing his best to ignore the rantings of Dead Joxer. Dead Joxer appears to have a lot on his mind about Callisto, and what Joxer should do about her.

Joxer continues to shove his fingers in his ears and say "Lalalalalala, not listening, lalalalalalalala."

It truly makes him perfectly aware of his surroundings while he's scouting. Honest.

Joxer did notice the noose snare lying directly in his path. Right about the time he was dangling upside down, all helpless and flaily.

Dead Joxer, in the mean time, had taken to facepalming.

Aeryn's still trying to be careful while scouting, while also trying not to be paranoid. She appears pretty cool, anyway.

There seemed to be an awfully large amount of leaf litter on this path. Suspiciously large, even.

Aeryn slows down so that she's almost stopped, and if she walks, it's her taking larger steps towards the edge of the path, where the leaf litter isn't as obvious.

Oh, look, a noose snare, lying in the middle of the path, completely uncovered where anyone paying the slightest bit of attention might see it.

Alec, while not paying all that much attention, was not actually blind. So he stepped around it, frowning. Maybe shoes hadn't been the way to go today...

And, well, Alec wasn't psychic, either. He stepped in the snare and was unceremoniously yanked off his feet as it was tripped, which made the yelp he voiced at the sudden movement totally understandable if still completely undignified.

If Parker isn't paying too close attention to the map, she might see several suspicious piles of leaves on the path ahead of her.

Stopping to check the path against the paperwork-- and wondering where the hell she got lost, Parker looked askance at the piles of leaves. Someone raked the forest? The hell?

Looking around, she grabbed a long stick, and suspiciously poked at one.

Nothing happened.

Possibly because the leaves were like that accidently. Possibly because only every third pile had a snare under it.

Parker glared at the piles, suspicious, but not sure why. She walked around them, giving them a wide berth, then looked down at the map again.
