Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

[ooc: Hang on to your collective hats while I get the OCD threads up, please.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

That's it! Go to town! Wait. No. Stay here and buy stuff...]

Sam was browsing, but had yet to pick up anything. Her concentration may have been a bit off.

"Hey Sam," Isabel said as she looked over the back cover of a book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0684852713/ref=cm_lm_fullview_prod_1/102-9223728-5504135?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155). "Find anything interesting?"

"Here and there," Sam shrugged, "but nothing I have to have so far, you know? What about you?"

"Same here," she admitted. "This isn't really my section. But I was looking for something for someone. This might work." Isabel up the book so that Sam could see the cover. "If not, well it looks like it might be an interesting, if a bit gross, read."

"Yeah, it does look like that--both interesting and gross, I mean," Sam said as she read the back of the book. "Who's it for?"

"Greg," Isabel said, blushing a little. "I don't know if you've met him. He was one of the guys in the Stickbug cabin."

"I don't think so?" Sam said, handing the book back and smiling slightly when she saw Isabel's blush. "But I'm sure he's a saint if he could live with Charlie, John, Jamie, and Cam for two weeks."

Zack moved over to the Science section, there were a couple (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0385479689/ref=pd_sim_b_5/103-6785516-2740633?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155) of (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0684863154/ref=pd_rhf_p_2/103-6785516-2740633?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155) titles (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0071457593/ref=pd_sim_b_5/103-6785516-2740633?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155) that caught his attention.

And this was where Peter was at home. He picked up a book by Kaku about parallel worlds (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0385509863/sr=8-1/qid=1149875780/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-6759884-5399148?%5Fencoding=UTF8). Peter now explicitly knew that the theory of parallel worlds was correct, so he wanted to understand them better.

He continued to look for anything else that might pique his interest.

"Hey," Isabel said as continued to look through the titles on the table. The one book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0684852713/ref=cm_lm_fullview_prod_1/102-9223728-5504135?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155) she'd already picked out tucked under her arm. "Looking for some light reading?"

River tilted her head sideways looking at Isabel's book. "Who got killed?"

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Lots of people, I suppose. This book is about how investigators use science to determine who did it," Isabel explained.

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes. But why do YOU want to read it?" Sometimes it annoyed River when people thought they had to explain things to her.

"It's not for me. My..." she paused, not certain what word to use. "My friend, is interested in forensics. It's for him."

"Hey," Peter said. "No, I'm looking for heavy stuff right now. I've already picked up my light reading (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/896560.html?thread=44306224#t44306224)." He held his three Flatplanet books up. "What do you have there?"

"It's not for me," Isabel sighed as she held up the book and waited for the inevitable awww...

Peter was going to drag this out a little. "Who's it for, then?"

"She going to be fine," Isabel assured him. She frowned, considering what had happened when she was in Parker's head she pretty certain Parker had visualized something similar happening to Bel at some point during the day.

A frog chose that moment to hop across her foot. Isabel sighed, "As you can see there's some weird Fandom crap happening. What happened to Parker was part of that. But it's going to be taken care of."

Grabbing a fairly thick-looking book about the universe off the shelf, Tempe added it to her pile. It would be a good reference for her Astronomy workshop.

Weetiny kitties wandered around her. Goldilocks seemed to be paying rapt attention to the row of books in front of her. She mewed sullenly, as she futilely stretched a paw out to grab at one in particular.

Tempe picked the book of the shelf. A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. "No, I think that's a bit much for a kitty," Tempe said, scritching Goldilocks under her chin. A disappointed mew followed as Tempe walked away to look for books on forensic anthropology.

Parker picked up a copy of A Brief History of Time as well as Fear of Physics and frowned at them consideringly.
