Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

[ooc: Hang on to your collective hats while I get the OCD threads up, please.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

That's it! Go to town! Wait. No. Stay here and buy stuff...]

Sam smiled. "Good. I know it's not as exciting, but at least it's not support? I did that last time, and the anxiety almost killed me."

"I know," Isabel agreed. "I was watching the monitor over Rory's shoulder and how horrible it felt when the tracking lights blinked out. At least this time I can be there to do something."

"Me too," Sam nodded. "Not that we weren't doing anything last time, but I don't feel as helpless if I can see what's going on."

"Exactly. I don't think I could handle waiting. I've got to many friends going out. I want to be there with them."

"So, we'll go." Sam thought of something. "Should we say something to Jack, do you think?"

"Maybe? I don't know. I'm just doing what I'm told at this point." Isabel frowned, "I just don't want to worry him."

She sighed. "Me either. He's got enough on his plate."

"I know. But I'm trying to prepare myself," she said with a sigh of her own. "You know when he finds out he's going to be annoyed with all of us."

"Yeah," Sam conceded, "but I can handle annoyed. I think. Do you think he pouts?"

"If it'll induce guilt and make us feel bad? I'm sure he will," Isabel said with certainty.

"Darn it." Sam was notoriously vulnerable to guys pouting at her.

"Tell me about it. I forsee groveling in my future." Isabel grinned at Sam, "We'll have to do something nice to make it up to him."

Sam choked and turned bright red. "I'm not sure how I could be nicer to him than I already have been," she said under her breath.

Isabel blinked at the blushing and then put two and two together. "A repeat performance?" she asked with a small laugh. "Because I just can't."

"That'll be up to him, I guess. And no, I guess you can't." Sam blushed even harder. God, this friends with benefits thing was weird. "Are you sorry?"

"Why would he ever turn you down if you offered?" Isabel asked, incredulously. "You're pretty, fun and smart. He'd be an idiot if he did."

"Maybe a bit?" she said, blushing herself. "Because damn, he can kiss. I found that out at his birthday party. But I'm not ready to be that casual about sex. Not that there's anything wrong with it," she said quickly. "It's just not me. I'm happy to have him as a friend. And he respects that. So we're good."

"He's a good guy," Sam said fondly, but not really comfortable going into detail, "and that he respects your decision, well, it makes me like him even better."

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

"He is," Isabel smiled. "And it's not that he doesn't tease or flirt. It's just that we both no it's not serious. So there's no pressure." She looked down, still embarassed to remember that night after Caritas. "I accidently got drunk at Caritas a few weeks ago. Jack looked out for me and kept me from doing anything too stupid."

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can't imagine that he'd do otherwise," Sam said, "but I'm still impressed. And god he's a flirt and a tease, but he's not sleazy. I can't figure out how he does it."

"Are you okay? What happened, if you don't mind my asking?"

"He's got charm," Isabel said. "Real, believable charm. And that really helps."

She shrugged, "I'm more embarassed then anything else. But otherwise I'm fine. I don't know if you've noticed, but I don't drink. That's because my weird alien metabolism can't handle alcohol. One sip? I mean literally one sip, and I'm plastered."

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
"It does," Sam agreed. "Wow, that's rough. I mean, unless you want to be drunk, in which case you're really lucky."

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
"It's an annoyance more then anything," Isabel said. "I've just resigned myself to not drinking. Which really isn't that big a deal to me. I look on the brightside. It means I get to be highly amused by everyone else."

"Anyway, two weeks ago, I went to Caritas with Jack, just to get out for a while. I was paying attention and wound up having a drink from his glass. Which had bourbon in it."

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Sam made a face. "Ugh, bourbon."

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Yup," Isabel agreed. "I took a drink and wound up plastered. And I'm a sappy, clingy drunk. I told Bel how great he was, I hugged Parker and Aeryn and told them how wonderful they were." She shook her head. "I'm really surprised I lived. But Jack got me out of there before anyone else noticed."

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-06-10 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
"You hugged Parker and Aeryn and complimented Bel?" Sam was trying very, very hard not to snicker. "At least you were friendly. And had Jack, of course."
