Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

[ooc: Hang on to your collective hats while I get the OCD threads up, please.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

That's it! Go to town! Wait. No. Stay here and buy stuff...]

"I still can't believe they took you guys on," Sam chuckled, "talk about outgunned. Any good ideas?"

"Well they do a good job. Making the cabin invisible was pretty inspired," Isabel grinned. "Right now we're at at loss. I guess we're just not immature enough to come with things."

"They're boys," Sam said, as if that explained everything. "Maybe you could find an immaturity consultant?"

"I might just have to call home to my brother, or possibly Kyle. He might actually be better," Isabel stated. "And the title of immaturity consultant would really fit him. Of course that's after we survive the weekend."

"I used to know someone who deserved the title--could have blown Kawalsky out of the water," Sam said, amused, "but he probably would have been right there next to Charlie, and you'd have been in a lot of trouble."

"We'll survive, Isabel," Sam said, reaching her hand out to put it on the other girl's shoulder. "But if it's too much for you, now's the time to back out."

"I'd really be afraid then," Isabel chuckled. "Charlie's good. Did you hear about what he did to Peter and Greg's room just before we moved down to the cabin?"

Isabel shrugged, "I'm pretty sure I can handle it. And there's enough people going that I'd trust to watch my back. Besides, what's a few mummies when eventually I have a hold world to help save."

"Jack and Charlie together were...something," she made a face that was somewhere between a grin and a wince, "and do I want to know what Charlie did?"

"So, really, this is just a practice run for you?"

"Nothing too bad. He filled their room with beach balls. Hundreds of them." Isabel rolled her eyes. "They were smart about them though. They deflated them and layered them on the wall they share with Alec's room. It's insulation to cut down on the noise."

"Of a sort," she admitted. "We've taken on the FBI at home, and I helped get Phoebe back. But I've never done anything this big before. So it's a learning experience."

Sam burst out laughing. "God bless Kawalsky. He saves us from boredom, that's for sure. And good for Peter and Greg, thinking outside the box."

"Just be careful, and watch yourself," Sam told her, "and don't be afraid to call for help."

"I was impressed. With all of them."

"Trust me, I'll be careful. It's not like I have Max around to heal me if I get hurt," Isabel said seriously. "I'm going to be sticking to the background if I have anything to say about it."

"Good," Sam nodded slowly. "We have people who are trained for this kind of thing. Okay, not mummies in particular," she laughed a little, "although I guess we have those too, now, but who are trained to fight. Let them take the lead."

"Exactly. Watch and learn. I promise."

Sam smiled. "Good. I know it's not as exciting, but at least it's not support? I did that last time, and the anxiety almost killed me."

"I know," Isabel agreed. "I was watching the monitor over Rory's shoulder and how horrible it felt when the tracking lights blinked out. At least this time I can be there to do something."

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Me too," Sam nodded. "Not that we weren't doing anything last time, but I don't feel as helpless if I can see what's going on."

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly. I don't think I could handle waiting. I've got to many friends going out. I want to be there with them."

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"So, we'll go." Sam thought of something. "Should we say something to Jack, do you think?"

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe? I don't know. I'm just doing what I'm told at this point." Isabel frowned, "I just don't want to worry him."

She sighed. "Me either. He's got enough on his plate."

"I know. But I'm trying to prepare myself," she said with a sigh of her own. "You know when he finds out he's going to be annoyed with all of us."

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Sam conceded, "but I can handle annoyed. I think. Do you think he pouts?"

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"If it'll induce guilt and make us feel bad? I'm sure he will," Isabel said with certainty.

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Darn it." Sam was notoriously vulnerable to guys pouting at her.

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Tell me about it. I forsee groveling in my future." Isabel grinned at Sam, "We'll have to do something nice to make it up to him."

Sam choked and turned bright red. "I'm not sure how I could be nicer to him than I already have been," she said under her breath.
