Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

[ooc: Hang on to your collective hats while I get the OCD threads up, please.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

That's it! Go to town! Wait. No. Stay here and buy stuff...]

And this was where Peter was at home. He picked up a book by Kaku about parallel worlds (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0385509863/sr=8-1/qid=1149875780/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-6759884-5399148?%5Fencoding=UTF8). Peter now explicitly knew that the theory of parallel worlds was correct, so he wanted to understand them better.

He continued to look for anything else that might pique his interest.

"Hey," Isabel said as continued to look through the titles on the table. The one book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0684852713/ref=cm_lm_fullview_prod_1/102-9223728-5504135?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155) she'd already picked out tucked under her arm. "Looking for some light reading?"

River tilted her head sideways looking at Isabel's book. "Who got killed?"

"Lots of people, I suppose. This book is about how investigators use science to determine who did it," Isabel explained.

"Yes. But why do YOU want to read it?" Sometimes it annoyed River when people thought they had to explain things to her.

"It's not for me. My..." she paused, not certain what word to use. "My friend, is interested in forensics. It's for him."

"Oh," River said. "I'm River, who are you?" There was something odd about this girl.

"I'm Isabel," she smiled. "Nice to meet you River. And welcome to Fandom, just a little late. Do you like it here?"

Grinning, River nodded. "Yes. It's interesting. Where are you from?"

"Interesting seems to be the word to use," Isabel agreed. "I'm from Roswell, New Mexico, and before that from a place that was a bit farther away.

"Hey," Peter said. "No, I'm looking for heavy stuff right now. I've already picked up my light reading (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/896560.html?thread=44306224#t44306224)." He held his three Flatplanet books up. "What do you have there?"

"It's not for me," Isabel sighed as she held up the book and waited for the inevitable awww...

Peter was going to drag this out a little. "Who's it for, then?"

Isabel raised an eyebrow. "Like you don't know?"

"It could be any of several people. You have many friends," Peter said.

"And how many of them are into forensics?" she asked, determined not to give in.

Re: Non-Fiction--Popular Science

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-06-09 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've never discussed forensics with most of your friends, so I have no clue," Peter said.

"I know several three people that are interested in it for one reason or another. Really it could be for anyone of them," Isabel said innocently.

Bel caught sight of Isabel among the tables and headed over to join her. "Hey, Isabel," he said. "You get my message?"

"She gonna be okay?" Bel asked. "She was being totally freaky. Asked me if I knew she wouldn't hurt me unless I deserved it."

"She going to be fine," Isabel assured him. She frowned, considering what had happened when she was in Parker's head she pretty certain Parker had visualized something similar happening to Bel at some point during the day.

A frog chose that moment to hop across her foot. Isabel sighed, "As you can see there's some weird Fandom crap happening. What happened to Parker was part of that. But it's going to be taken care of."

"So, just another day in Fandom then?" Bel said. "Is Callisto being freaky the same thing?"

"Pretty much." Isabel frowned, trying to remember if she'd seen Cal at the meeting. "I think so."

[RL calls. Pick it up later? Around 8:30ish?]

[Sure, I'll be around. :) ]
