Janet took Liz's hand and squeezed it. "I'm sure it'll be fine." She smiled reassuringly. "I could always go explain very calmly to Angel how I'm sure his feelings are misplaced and they need to go away now."

Yes. Calmly. Which is why Janet's voice got a ~~lot~~ little more forceful there.

Elizabeth's eyes widened. "You don't really mean calmly, do you?"

"Of course I do," said Janet, in her best 'let's explain to Jack, Daniel, Sam, or Teal'c again exactly why staying in the infirmary is the best thing for them' voice.

So, no. Not calmly. But she was doing a halfway reasonable job at pretending to be calm. Also she wasn't letting go of Liz's hand quiet yet.

Elizabeth was actually quite scared of Janet now as well. But scared in a good way, considering she wasn't the one who needed to be scared of her. "Okay," she said in a small voice.

"I'm sure it'll be fine," said Janet. "StuCo and Government went okay, after all."

"I hid behind Parker in StuCo," Elizabeth admitted.

"You hid?" asked Janet, trying desperately to smother a grin.

"Well, not hid hid, but, um. Hid," Elizabeth looked sheepish.

"Because after facing down the Goa'uld, the Wraith, and who knows what else, you're afraid of Callisto?" asked Janet. And she wasn't amused at all.

Elizabeth nodded. "Yes. Have I mentioned how much I miss Major Lorne recently?"

"I don't think you've ever mentioned Major Lorne," said Janet. "Much less missing him."

Elizabeth looked innocent. "He was essentially my bodyguard when John wasn't around," she explained. "A very useful thing to have."

"Oh, when John wasn't around?" she asked, smiling. "You had a bodyguard?"

Elizabeth blushed slightly. "I did," she said. "Normally when I was off-world, trying to get Colonel Sheppard and his team out of trouble."

"That's actually quite understandable," said Janet. "And you know, you already told me about you and Colonel Sheppard having a thing back then."

"It wasn't a thing," Elizabeth said, still blushing slightly. "At least, it wasn't thing yet."

"How long have I known Sam and Jack? How happily engaged are the General and Lieutenant Colonel?" Janet shook her head. "Don't even try to fool me. Maybe there's a thing going on by now back there."

"Perhaps," Elizabeth admitted. "But that's not my life any more, and John Sheppard is not a part of my life here."

"I know," said Janet, nudging Liz with her shoulder and smiling at her. "For one thing, he wasn't our John Sheppard. For another, he's not here anymore anyway."

"No," Elizabeth smiled back at her. "Not that I had much to do with him when he was here, anyway."

"None of us really did." Janet frowned. "Shep was odd. Not really like any Air Force officer I've known."

"He had always been maverick, but," Elizabeth shook her head. "That was not a man I would have pushed to take to Atlantis with me."

"Well, let's just hope that he's back in his universe, and his universe's Elizabeth will have to deal with him then," said Janet. She grinned.

"Amen to that," Elizabeth laughed. "Not that I'd wish him on an alternate version of myself, but rather her than me!"

"If she hadn't killed him, obviously she'd better-equipped to deal with him, for whatever reason." Janet giggled. "And who knows? Maybe she's got me over there threatening him with needles every five minutes. I swear, sometimes it was the only way to get Jack to cooperate."
