The library is closed so that the aides and the librarian may eat their lunches in peace. Of course, if ask nicely, you might be able to get away with disturbing them.
Staring at pictures of prom dresses and trying to figure out which one she's going to buy at the last minute isn't helping her mood. But if she doesn't have a dress, Sam will kill her.
Theoretically, there's a TA meeting with Dr. Pierson today. In actuality, if the man wants the damned meeting, she's dragging him out to the Perk for it.
Angela grinned. "Yep. It's kind of gold -- pale gold, not Elvis gold -- halter style, and the skirt is a bunch of tiered layers of chiffon. I like it a lot. It's elegant and not too slutty or too princessy for me."
"I'm still trying to figure out the whole hair, shoes, shawl thing, though."
"That sounds gorgeous," said Janet, grinning. "I'm trying to decide between a dark maroon and a couple of deep brown dresses. But I love halter tops. Marty's going to lose all coherent thought when he sees you."
Janet's head impacted the Collections Desk. "Ow," she said, her voice muffled by the fact that she hadn't lifted her head off the desk. "That was stupid. Hair. I knew I was forgetting something."
"Maroon or brown would be perfect with your coloring," Angela said. She considered Janet's hair, tilting her head. "Maybe leave it down, but curl it so it's kind of soft waves? Or just pull back the front."
"A lot, I hope," said Janet, who was getting her sandwich and an apple out of the mini-fridge that has *handwavily* always existed or something behind the Collections Desk. "Why?"
"I was leaning towards brown or gold, but Parker suggested maroon," said Janet, straightening up. "And she does know what she's talking about. One of the brown dresses is short, though, which I like for obvious reasons." She grinned down at herself ruefully. "That's a good idea for my hair. Let it frame my face, you mean, but not overwhelm it?"
"Just that Callisto was twitchy enough about something Angel must have done yesterday, and now they're reporting he has a crush on Liz. OR maybe this is their way of putting out a hit on her without having to pay for it." Parker shook her head. "Craziness. Anyway, did you figure out which dress you wanted? I'm still trying to decide."
"Yeah, I'm really wondering what the heck is going on," said Janet, frowning. Kind of a lot. "Hopefully Liz will have heard the radio and will stay away from both of them until this gets straightened out." Janet sighed. "I can't decide. But I decided that I owe myself jewelry that will go with whatever dress I decide." She loaded the pictures of the necklace and earrings up on her laptop to show them off.
"Ooooo. Those will look gorgeous on you." Parker grinned, picturing the earrings, then said, "Hair definitely up or away from your face, then, I'm guessing?" She grimaced. "If I could figure out which dress, I could figure out what the hell I'm doing with mine. No jewelry, the necklines are both wrong for it."
"Thanks. I think that after an entire school year of buying myself almost nothing but books and chocolate, I deserved something nice," said Janet. "Angela suggested that I leave my hair down, but pull it back from my face. I think I like that idea, and it should work with the back of any of the dresses I'm trying to decide on." Janet studied Parker's hair and nodded. "It's going to have to be different for each dress. But either will look good. Are you going to wear earrings or a bracelet, if you skip on a necklace?"
"Short dresses can be good. Easier to move in, too," Angela nodded. "And yeah, that's exactly what I mean about your hair. I'm probably going to get someone to French-braid mine, so it'll look nice but I won't have to think about it all night."
She sighed. "Of course, this assumes I get out of detention in time to get ready."
"Earrings, definitely. I have a pair that's perfect with either." And wearing her mom's would be a little like having her there. "Bracelet-- hmm. I think so. I need to find one that matches." She grinned. "You're going to look great, whichever one of those dresses you choose. And Alanna's got a great dress, and... did Sam ever decide on one?"
"All very good points for short," said Janet. She reached up and pulled a bit of her hair back from her face, then tried to study herself in her laptop monitor. "I think that would work. I keep thinking about straightening my hair again. This is the longest I've gone in years without having done something to it." She let her hair drop and looked back at Angela. "I think a French braid will be perfect. Are you going to have them braid it up, or let it fall down the back of your neck?"
Janet's eyes widened. "Detention? You're kidding me. What kind of jerk gives detention on prom weekend?"
"What do they look like?" asked Janet. "I find that gold matches just about anything." She grinned back. "I'd better look great. Idiot Boy can see pictures later and realize what he missed out on." Janet shook her head. "I have no clue. I was going to corner her for an answer last night, but I didn't get a chance to."
