Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The lawn was arranged with tables and chairs - some near the food, some not - and there was plenty of food to go around. The school had even wised up and put to-go boxes by the plates, so people didn't have to put food in their pockets to take it with them for later. No one was gonna judge you for making some pocket bacon, but at least now it wasn't a necessity.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Still better than Merle. Low bar, but there it was.

He still offered up a cheerful fistbump for it because he was used to Taako who alternated between cutting sarcasm and cloud cuckoo lander stupid when it suited him. "Do you have a magical pocket for it? Because lint on bacon sounds bad."

Sparkle just shrugged and smiled crookedly.

"This school's weird."

He said to the girl with the cat head. And was mostly just okay with that.

He'd been around a while.

Peebee blinked for a second, but recovered quickly enough to shake her head. “Of course that’s the reputation we’re gonna have with humans too, isn’t it? All boring and stuffy and more superior than thou? Of course it is,” she said with a sigh, though she didn’t actually sound irritated. Resigned, more like. Seriously, matriarchs, lighten up. “I like to think of it more like pioneering, really. If you’re from anywhere around the time Kaidan is, I’m way before yours.”

That was about when she noticed Jack’s shirt, and laughed.

“Oh, that’s a good one,” she said, indicating it. “I like that.”

Vette glanced up at Lana with a wry little smile.

"I don't think I've ever been anywhere as beautiful in my entire life," she admitted. "Just me, or did the Raito remind you of the Rishii? I mean, what I've heard of the Rishii, anyway. And Zora's domain..."

She kind of felt bad she hadn't taken time to introduce her to Sidon's father. But all-told, she wasn't half as brave sometimes as she pretended to be.

"Yeah? Then you'll do just fine here," Sparkle decided. "Remember-- fridges are for eating out of, avoid little green things that bite, you'll be fine."

Beau just kept side-eyeing him for a second or two before she returned the fistbump. Sorry, Magnus, she just wasn’t used to people being that friendly without some kind of ulterior motive.

“Nah, dude, it’s fine. It’s like really high quality material, you know?” Fancy-ass silk monk clothing and all. At least she didn’t have a tiny owl that she kept forgetting about also in that pocket. “I just like to have some extra protein on hand. Like I need the energy, you know?”

Jack cackled at the more than accurate description of the Asari. "Not with all humans," Jack laughed, "It's more a comment on what Earth's become by my time. Asari usually have taste, blocky cubist sh..stuff.. design.. the Alliance goes for isn't their thing generally."

She bobbed her head at the mention of Kaidan. "His sister." Effectively. "How much earlier?" she asked curiously, "Not like 50,000 years earlier? Because last person I met that old was a di..dirtbag."

Javik was a dick, ok? He just was.

Magnus would just keep being friendly at her because bitty level 1's needed all the help they could get. Also, what if he got invited for a one shot on Critical Role? What then?

"Like a video game," he said as though it was dawning on him. "I keep GORP for that reason. It's nutritious and keeps forever."

Peebee would totally have agreed that Javik was a dick, yes. Prothean research? Also boring. (Sorry not sorry, Liara.)

“A few decades, give or take, from what I can figure out, before you all show up in Citadel space,” she said. “So not that long, really.” She might not even technically be an adult yet by then!

“Does Alliance design scandalize us? Please tell me it does.”

Sidon might have mused a little on how he sort of missed that kind of reaction, but that would assume that he was even remotely aware of them.

"Pizza," he offered, with a gesture toward to food in question, "is the delicacy you see there in the large cardboard boxes! A truly splendid combination of a truly superb sauce and enticingly melted cheese over a crust that makes it wonderfully easy to handle! Other things are often added, as well, any combination of meats and vegetables and even sometimes fruit!, that your heart can conceive! It is often sliced into convenient triangle shapes, though I have seen them separated into squares before, as well. A truly versatile and satisfying morsel. It comes highly recommended."

It was totally the same principle as hoarding 999 healing items because WHAT IF YOU NEEDED THEM? She’d still end up getting knocked out a lot and not using them, though, probably.

“That doesn’t sound really appetizing, though. I mean . . .”

It was also a good place to be spotted by friend-hungry shark-people on the prowl for new faces.

But Sidon understood that some people separated themselves from crowds specifically because they didn't care to be a part of them, so he tried ensure that his toothy grin was extra friendly as he nodded to the new girl and waved a hand before coming over. "Welcome to Fandom!" he offered brightly. "I am correct in the assumption that you are one of our new, exciting students, am I not?"

As if Peebee was ever going to 'grow up'.

"Oh yes," Jack confirmed with a smirk, "No curves, no harmonious colors, no flowers. Humans scandalize the Asari. We're worse than Salarians when it comes to packing in a whole lot of living in such a short time."

She lived for giving Liara that headache. Quiet calm and contemplative - Jack liked to shake her up like a snow globe.

But at some point she'd end up with triple the HP of her party members like Magnus? Maybe. Hopefully. Get those stats, girl.

"What? GORP? It's granola... um... oats! Oats, yeah. Raisins and peanuts. Though Lucretia uses pistachos and that shit's amazing."

That was just... a whole lot of words for a weird melty cheese on bread. Look, he was from an extra crapsack version of middle ages Romania. So this was witchcraft and sorcery!

Luckily, Trevor was already damned, so in for a penny...

He squinted at the so-called pizza for a moment before taking a slice. "What the hell would anyone put fruit on this?"

Sabine was mostly grateful to have actual people around again. She was still sitting at a picnic table with a warm drink to watch what was going on rather than doing any real mingling, and watching to see if any of the incoming newbies were going to get weird about a Mandalorian hanging around.

Her new look before the new semester was actually accidental. That'd been due to a crisis of boredom.

Probably not, but maybe she’d end up with a ridiculously high AC for being dodgy as fuck?

“Oh, okay, see, that sounds better. Why can’t you just —“ Beau cut herself off and shook her head. “Right, that’s a mouthful. Abbreviations are unfortunate sometimes, man.”

"Oh," said Sidon, rather gravely for someone who'd only known about pizza for little over a year, "it's a highly contested controversy, really, but it's rooted in the idea of whether or not sweet flavors should be mixed with savory ones, and it's almost entirely focused around a fruit called a pineapple. Perhaps I am blessed to not have a palate refined enough to take a strong stance on the matter myself, but there are some people out there who are wildly passionate about their side to this particular issue."

...Sidon, how did you even know all of this, anyway?

He had his ways, apparently.

Heck yes, free food. Bobby had piled a plate high enough that honestly, it was surprising he could actually see over it as he made his way to a table.

While Sidon did always fully dedicate himself to meeting as many new people at the picnics as he possibly could, he felt it would be terribly remiss of him if he didn't managed to make time for his girlfriend somewhere in the midst of his quest. Granted, his reasons for doing this was entirely selfish and rooted very deeply in the fact that he merely wanted to spend time with her, but that was just a harsh reality the both of them would have to deal with.

"If you need assistance with any of those boxes," he said, deciding he was not above taking advantage of Vette's full hands to swoop down in the attempt to steal a kiss, "I am incredibly pleased to report that I have two very capable and currently very empty hands eager to help."

Nope, she categorically refused to do that, thus ‘technically.’

Peebee grinned. “And this is why I can’t wait until you guys show up. It’s going to be so much more interesting. But no, for the time being I’m just here, living the past firsthand, enjoying the weirdness and getting the kinds of life experiences I’m pretty sure are not what any of my teachers back home had in mind. It’s fun. Especially if people might think being here is me slumming it.”

You were already her new favorite terrible influence, Jack.

Well, for the price of a kiss, Vette would certainly let Sidon help her with those boxes!

"My hero," she laughed, smiling up at him. "How did you know I was looking for an empty pair of capable hands right about now?"

"Are you a merchant?" Entrapta asked, scuttling towards him on a nest of hair. A nest of hair with legs.

Now that she was away from her castle and her servants and her robots, she would need to figure out how to obtain all the materials she would need for her experiments. Locating a merchant would be the first step!

In fact, she should note that while she remembered it. "Log. Hour seven. Hour eight? Hour eight of this journey to the 'school.' I need to remember to find merchants."

Entrapta gasped, face lighting up. She shot up into the air, balanced on her ponytails, until she was face-to-face with Sidon. "Well, hello," she said. "You're very tall. And your teeth are excellent. How far back do they go?"

"Didn't you know?" Sidon asked, any attempts to sound lofty about it spoiled terribly by his chuckle and the grin on his face, which wasn't going anywhere any time soon. "I've got a sense for these sorts of complicated dilemmas, and it would be terribly tragic to notice you eyeing more of these tantalizing morsels and having to turn away from them despite your longing on the mere technicality of only have two hands., when such a simple solution not only exists, but is fantastically eager to be put into action!"
