Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The lawn was arranged with tables and chairs - some near the food, some not - and there was plenty of food to go around. The school had even wised up and put to-go boxes by the plates, so people didn't have to put food in their pockets to take it with them for later. No one was gonna judge you for making some pocket bacon, but at least now it wasn't a necessity.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Peebee would totally have agreed that Javik was a dick, yes. Prothean research? Also boring. (Sorry not sorry, Liara.)

“A few decades, give or take, from what I can figure out, before you all show up in Citadel space,” she said. “So not that long, really.” She might not even technically be an adult yet by then!

“Does Alliance design scandalize us? Please tell me it does.”

As if Peebee was ever going to 'grow up'.

"Oh yes," Jack confirmed with a smirk, "No curves, no harmonious colors, no flowers. Humans scandalize the Asari. We're worse than Salarians when it comes to packing in a whole lot of living in such a short time."

She lived for giving Liara that headache. Quiet calm and contemplative - Jack liked to shake her up like a snow globe.

Nope, she categorically refused to do that, thus ‘technically.’

Peebee grinned. “And this is why I can’t wait until you guys show up. It’s going to be so much more interesting. But no, for the time being I’m just here, living the past firsthand, enjoying the weirdness and getting the kinds of life experiences I’m pretty sure are not what any of my teachers back home had in mind. It’s fun. Especially if people might think being here is me slumming it.”

You were already her new favorite terrible influence, Jack.

Jack smirked, "Yeah, it gets to be a whole party-party moment when we do. Turians got all stick-ass about it." Tch. "Turians." All that needed to be said, really.

She loved Garrus, but Garrus was some sort of mutant Turian anarchist and she was never going to stop laughing at the constipated face he made when she pointed out that he was helping run the government now.

"You sign up for my class?" she asked because, so help her, wouldn't that just be fun. "Because I guarantee I'm not teaching anything the Matriarchs would approve of."

“And isn’t that just the best selling point?” Peebee had the kind of sly grin on her face that should worry more cautious people. “Which one is it? Because if I haven’t, I may need to go fix that right now.”

"Civics. Monday, period 4," she answered, "I'm Jack."

Peebee did a little double fistpump. “Ha! Well, color me unsurprised then. Not to mention a little bit smug because as it just so happens, I did already sign up for that class, and now I feel extra justified. Name’s Peebee. This is going to be fun.”

Jack laughed because damnit little wee Asari were cute.

"Good. I could use an assistant who knows how to make trouble. Interested?" She left out the bit about how nice it would be to have someone else who understood just how quaint this antique mall of a planet they were on actually was.

It was so technologically behind the times! It was almost adorable.

“Somewhere back home, someone is cringing and wondering what I’ve gotten up to now,” Peebee said, sounding far too satisfied about that. “At least, I really hope so, since I think I’m going to take you up on that.”

Almost adorable by way of incredibly clunky and frustrating.

"I don't even have to go that far," Jack laughed, "There's another Asari on the other side of my portal who just facepalmed so hard she probably's gonna have a bruise and she won't even know why, but she's still probably muttering my name!"

She was usually the cause of Liara's facepalms.

"But if there ever was one who needed to get out and live a little, it's her."

"You mean more than the standard amount of stick-up-the-butt, then?" Peebee whistled and feigned a very, very sad headshake. "Aw. That's kind of tragic and cute at the same time."

"Research geek," Jack confirmed with a nod, "Spends most of her time around artifacts and paperwork instead of people."

A beat. "Which I admit some days sounds like paradise. She's chilled her tits a little over the last few years. Hanging out on a ship with our mixed-races crew gave her a little more socializing but she just gets so scandalized sometimes, Peebee!" Jack laughed a little. "I love that expression on her face and the way she drawls, 'Jaaack!'" Said with an incredible mimicry of Liara's best 'omg what did you even do' voice.

"At the risk of being one of the jerks who thinks all Asari know one another.. Liara, Benezia's kid. You know either of 'em?"

"Liara?" echoed Peebee, frowning. "Can't say she's anyone I know from home, but -- huh, that name does kind of ring a bell. I think she went to school here a while back? Might've met her once, but other than that, can't say I know her. Still, just on principle? I definitely approve of keeping her on her toes."

She'd troll the shit out of Liara on a regular basis given the chance. Look what she was going to do to Lexi someday.

Lexi deserved every moment of it.

"Not the same Liara," Jack noted, "Kaidan had to warn me about that. Mine was definitely never on Earth before the ...heh. Before the year before I came here."

Right. Don't tell the little Asari about the Reaper War. Nobody needed that crap if they hadn't lived through it.

"Right, right. I heard about that, too. You know, I can't help feeling like new arrivals in this place should get a nice handy wall chart they can use to keep track of all this stuff?" Peebee might've suggested a spreadsheet instead, but that would probably be a little bit much for some of the more severely time-displaced island denizens. "Welcome to Fandom, enjoy the lingering headache!"
