Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The lawn was arranged with tables and chairs - some near the food, some not - and there was plenty of food to go around. The school had even wised up and put to-go boxes by the plates, so people didn't have to put food in their pockets to take it with them for later. No one was gonna judge you for making some pocket bacon, but at least now it wasn't a necessity.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

“Oh, okay, see, that sounds better. Why can’t you just —“ Beau cut herself off and shook her head. “Right, that’s a mouthful. Abbreviations are unfortunate sometimes, man.”

Well, that worked too. He was just a good meat shield for his party.

"Yeah," he agreed, already digging for his bag of GORP to offer her some. Despite the pile of food right next to them.

Beau wasn’t really meat shield material, but you try telling her ‘totally going to tank a hydra’ ass that.

“Do you get that a lot? Offering that stuff to people —“ she was already making grabby hands at it, again despite the pile of food — “and having them go ‘dude, no, what the fuck is that?’”

"You know, for some reason, everyone back home just knows what it is." Possibly because they were from the same West Virginian family.

Possibly.

"Oh." Beau shrugged. "Like a regional thing. Yeah, that's fair. Also better than dried rations, probably."

"Hell yeah it is," he agreed. "Rations are the worst. Not that we do much with them."

Or remember they exist.

Nobody remembered they existed. Because they were that bad.

"I know, I know," Beau added while chewing, because manners were for other people, "that's like, a super low bar but still."

"It's hardtack, right? I'm betting it's hardtack."

No, that would be after the accidental detour into piracy.

"I mean . . ." Beau made a face. "I don't wanna say I'm never going to touch that stuff, but I never want to, you know?"

Not that the multiverse cared what she wanted.

"So you teaching this term too?"

Wait.

"Like Fjord, I mean. Not me."

NOBODY NEEDED THAT.

Hey, she could teach punching! Punching was a valuable skill.

"Yep! Problem solving. With your fists."

Yeah, she could totally teach that class.

“Gods dammit, why couldn’t I have gone to school here?”

She would have been all over that class.

“I mean, please, that’s the best kind of problem solving, am I right?”

"Hell yeah!" She was gonna have to get used to the fistbumps. Because that was his thing. "You could come by and check it out! I don't think this school has very good security, to be honest."

“Obviously,” Beau said, smirking and returning the fistbump with slightly less hesitation this time. “Shit, they let me past the gates.”

And she was going to leave with so much bacon, too.

“I might do that, though. It’s something to do.” That involved punching things, which was always a draw.

"Yeah, but you're cool," Magnus replied. "But that's great! You can show kids cool monk moves."

Cara had the terrifyingly competent stuff covered for the both of them.

“That’s kind of my thing, though,” Beau protested, mostly in an attempt to pretend being called cool wasn’t gratifying. “It’s no fun if it’s everybody else’s thing too.”

She totally wanted to show off a little bit, though.

“I’ll think about it.”

"They'd have to multiclass to really steal your thing and that's too much a pain. Man, learning rogue stuff took ages and I never get to use it!"

He said, knowing Barry Bluejeans who was possibly three different classes to cover all the skills he had.

“What, so you can’t pick locks and stuff like that?”

Beau could! Because thieves’ tools proficiency came with the criminal background.

“You never know, though. Pretty useful life skill, actually.”

Not that she ever did it in game either.

Great, now they needed a heist.

"I can also sneak attack, which is pretty sweet."

Ah, those tasty, tasty extra d6s.

“For when just charging in and hitting things isn’t enough?”

Gotta have those d6s!

"I like to keep things fresh. Ya know?"

Beau just had d4s right now. Rub it in, sure.

"I can respect that," Beau said with a quick nod. "Keep people off balance, all that shit."

Nah, nah. Rubbing it in would be saying his weapons were mostly rollin' d10s these days.

"Exactly! See, I have met so many more fighty people here."

JUST WAIT UNTIL SHE HIT LEVEL 6 AND COULD PUNCH GHOSTS.

"And that's good, right? I'd say it's good."

THAT WASN'T FAIR. HE WANTED TO PUNCH GHOSTS.

"Way good," he agreed before continuing in an immitation of Taako's voice, "Oh, look at me. I'm a wizard with spell slots and the ability to cast magical fire at things. Uhn."
