Today's shenanigans had been redirected into the community center--there were signs in the park to herd everyone into the correct place, and the food vendors had set up their rickshaws out front in anticipation.

"Today," Anakin began once everyone had taken seats, "we will take a break from physical acuman and see how good you are at following directions. Since I've taught most of you, I'm betting on...less well." He gestured at the tables, baking ingredients, and ovens that had been set up. "Today you will be working in pairs to complete two cooking goals. We have guest judges to grade your attempts: Dr. Lecter, who teaches culinary courses, and Mr. Eliot Spencer, who runs the diner. Listen for you names, please:

Ahsoka and Cristina; Aphra and Kanan; Amaya and Aloy; Zack and Hernando; Tip and Reno; Theron and Uma; Karla and Beaker; Jaina and Sidon; Astrid and Jono; and Mitsutada and Kitty."

"Those who come in second place will receive the glory of the singing fish," Anakin said, calling the terrifying beastie back to his hand with an indolent wave. "The rest of you get...sleep without nightmares, I guess."

TASK NUMBER 1: SUGAR FACES

In front of Hannibal and Eliot are beautifully decorated sugar cookies that all look uncannily like the faces of the teachers at the high school.

YOUR JOB: follow the sugar cookie directions on your tables! Make sugar cookies! Decorate one to look JUST LIKE one of the teachers! DO IT ALL IN 45 MINUTES.

Karla had been feeling confident about her chances--after all, she was a great cook now--and then she saw her partner. "You're...huh. Well, okay then."

At least she had Craft.

"What do you think? Anakin?"

Jaina was cursing whoever put her in for this, but sighed and came over from looking at the actual pretty cookies. "So, this is going to be a disaster."

"Oh, come now," said Sidon, with a chuckle, as he passed a look over the ingredients. "It shouldn't be too difficult..."

Even he didn't sound very convinced, though, and that wasn't a good sign.

"Is it cheating if we make the cookie look like me?" Mitsutada wondered out loud. "That seems like it would be quite vain, though it has a certain sense of style."

She, for instance, would probably cry if someone made her look like a blob.

"Hell, why not?" Kanan rolled up his sleeves and looked at the ingredients list. "I've done a bit of baking over the years, too."

Not necessarily well, but he was willing to give this a shot.

Jono had, fortunately, wrapped up for this one. Whatever the thing was meant to be this week, he didn't want his flames to get in the way.

He was facepalming so hard, though, when he realized what it was and who was judging.

So. Hard.

Baking cookies that looked like the teachers, partnered with her teacher with a face on fire, who taught the class she was in because her mothwe probably thought it was hilarious. Sure. Yeah. Because that was normal.

And yet...she still felt more comfortable with this than the notion that her roommate turned into a bird yesterday.

"So," said Astrid, "think they'll bake if we just brood hard enough?"

She was at least confident that she was practically his star pupil, after all.

So he was expecting this would be fun. Disastrous, maybe. But fun.

It.... was a really good thing Zack had decided to leave the dog at home today. He looked around for Hernando - that was a new name! - and considered the ingredients as he did so.

Maybe they could make Ino! He did know Ino's face pretty well, after all.

Hernando asked around until someone directed him toward Zack. "Hello," he introduced, "You are Zack? I am Hernando Fuentes." A glance at the list of names made him fidget, "I am new and not familiar with any teacher except Dr. Lecter, who is a judge. Do you know any of them, or have an idea who to make a cookie?"

Amaya was just going to pass a glance over to her partner and say, "I'm just gonna apologize right now. Actually, no, I take that back. You're I lick, because with me trying to bake, there''s no way we have to worry about getting that fish.

Neither had Uma. She had experience cooking, but that had mostly been throwing shit into a pan and frying it. This was waaaay beyond her experience levels.

"You know," she said, "if we don't really try, we can't get the fish."

Tip was rather pleased with how her and Reno's creation came out. Sure, the cookie was on the dry and crumbly side, and the royal icing was not setting correctly. But it was a solid first try, and the art. . . .

Well, slowly melting lines aside, Tip was rather proud of the art. It was a lovely cartoon rendering of Fandom's noble dean, complete with bathrobe, shaggy hair, and bemused scowl.

Eliot had been watching the whole proceedings, manfully resisting the urge to jump in and help when he saw people struggling or making clear errors. He gave the grinning girl a bit of a wary look when she came over with her team's creation -- he hadn't noticed her or her partner doing anything too appalling, but still. . . .

Then he got a look at the cookie and just burst out laughing.
